Venturing into the amphibian world!

Just brought home two juvenile auratus frogs! I've had their viv set up for a few weeks :) trying for bio active so I've got two bromeliads some earthworms and springtails. Anyway one is a blue and black and the other is a green and black, their names are Turk and JD. The green is already proving to be much more outgoing and photogenic but hopefully the blue gets comfortable too!

They look great CAL! Nice pickups. How high are you keeping the humidity? I picked up a pac man frog two months ago from the reptile expo. Lol.

Any picks of the whole setup? I've always liked the looks of dart frog setups.

It stays at 99% as long as it is closed, which of course it always is aside from feeding. Pictures of the whole setup never do it justice but here is one anyway! And of course it is coming up sideways 🙄

Are you using a versa top to aid in the humidity retention? That's what I have for the pac man frog. He/ she is a 4 spot pac man. Has really done very well so far. Seeing as I brought it home in a coffe cup sized container. The growth of it now is probably quadrupled. Lol. Your enclosure looks fantastic!

It's not a standard aquarium, it's a fluval edge, so the only opening in the glass is a hole that's about one quarter of the entire top, I covered that with a fine mesh that I can open for feeding and then it comes with a lid that has only a little bit of ventilation. I originally set it up to be an aquarium as it was designed to be but it started leaking, I tried to repair it but it wouldn't hold so I was going to throw it out when a friend mentioned it would make a great terrarium and once I have an idea like that in my head I'm hard to stop :)

I'm with you on that, except my aquariums weren't leaking before I moved out the fish to make way for snakes, LOL. I was tempted to do dart frogs, but culturing fruit flies and crickets was too much like work for me. Snakes are more interactive than fish or amphibians, and easier to clean up after as well. Not to mention they don't make loud noises all night when courting. Had enough of that with the toads in tha backyard pond every spring at our last house. :rolleyes:

Snakes are definitely my favorite tank dwelling pet for the same reasons but this tank didn't seem big enough. I just got a fruit fly culture so I guess we'll see how that goes if it's too much work then the store I work at sells crickets so that'd be really easy. I obviously love fish too though, I've got 6 tanks going now lol.

Frogs are a very interesting species. They are so diverse, I can't wait to have the space to start a breeding project with pac mans to start off.

It would actually be worse if I really liked the frogs, because I'd have to get a couple more, then a couple more... I'm down to 4 tanks of fish now, around 500 gallons total. More than once I've considered turning the 125 into a frog terrarium, but never quite did.

Update on the lil guys, plants are doing ok but not great, not sure why. Frogs are doing awesome! Turk (green) is growing a lot faster than JD (blue) but I always watch to make sure they both eat and they seem to eat the same amount. I am thinking maybe male vs female or maybe JD's just a runt/late bloomer.
