Moved into the new house and 2 weeks later random, just about full, shed is on the back porch when I get home at nearly 11pm!

I couldn't make out the markings but it smelled AWFUL, so I'm thinking it belongs to a garter. It was about 2 feet long and dull. I was all excited "mom! There's a shed in the back yard!" Her response "did ine of your snakes get out?" Me "Nope! And it smells REALLY bad!" She just groans.

If a bypasser heard this conversation I bet they would think I was talking an actual shed and not a snake skin lol. Which....we have one of those in the back yard too. Lol.

dear minkness-i wonder if you'll ever find out what left it behind? the same thing happened to my husband. he is a custodian at a retirement center. last month he was changing a florescent light bulb in the ceiling and when he pushed the panel out and shown his flashlite in the crawl space, there was a nice long snake skin. i think the snake found the perfect place to live. it was warm, dark, no one bothered it, and they have a pantry that an occaisonal mouse has been caught. i told him to keep an eye out for it so he can let it go before anyone kills it. he hasn't found it yet.

If you count the scale rows you can then determine if it came from a garter or not. Still, always cool to have nature right in your backyard!

It sounds like you need to go herping in your neighborhood. I've been lucky enough to catch a couple lined snakes in my backyard after mowing the grass. It's pretty cool not having to go far to see snakes.

Maybe! My yard is pretty small, and I'm not comfortable going into other's yards, which ia what makes up the neighborhood. Not a whole lot of free space available.
