View Full Version : Blue Beauty With Incomplete Shed
Well to my surprise my blue beauty decided to shed today. I didn't even see it in the blue so it caught me off guard. Roughly 90% of the shed came off in one section except for the last 3"-4" of tail after the vent. I have a humid hide and a large water bowl. So I've since sprayed down the enclosure liberally in hopes it will loosen up the shed and it will come off naturally. If not, I'll try to gently pull it off after a warm soak in water tomorrow. Any other tips or suggestions? This is the first time I've ever had a snake with a stuck shed.
If you take a facecloth and make it quite damp with warm water and let the snake crawl through your fingers while you gently but firmly grip all the way around slightly before where the retained skin begins, it will come off quite easily in the cloth as the snake moves forward. It can take a few crawl throughs and is sometimes best done after a soak but normally it won't take too much. The sooner you do this, the easier it will be to remove.
Thanks Andy. That's a great idea. I'll try it this evening.
Well the misting of the cage did the trick. I saw the rest of the shed stuck to its log hide. It all came off it one more piece. I rechecked to make sure and she's good to go. Even ate 2 hoppers.
