Hi Everyone,

I am getting ready to move my 10 month old boa from a 16 qt tub to a larger enclosure. Today at Staples I found a tub on sale for $9.00, so I picked it up... it's a little larger than I need but I figure if I clutter it up enough it will work. It is essentially a very tall 28 qt tub, which will probably be fine since my boa is still small and he likes to climb!

Anyway, I am wondering if this lid if secure enough. It has locks on the handles similar to "Really Useful Boxes" but the plastic itself is not quite as thick so the lid as a little more flex than a normal RUB.

This is a picture of the tub:

And here is a picture of how far (we a decent amount of effort) I can pull the lid from the tub with the locks engaged... I can get it to be about a 1" gap at most.

Does anyone think the lid needs extra reinforcement? I will admit it takes quite a lot of force to create a gap, not to mention the compression it would put on the snakes body if he tried to squeeze through that (if he could manage to create a gap in the first place).. but I know snakes are sneaky like that haha.

My boa is heavily central American influenced and is still very small (2ft, 124g) and won't grow much past 4.5 ft... although maybe its his small size right now that makes him more likely to escape..?

thanks!

I wouldn't feel good until I reinforced it or put latches on the side.

Ya that's kind of the way I'm feeling too... Maybe I'll pick up some larger binder clips!

I've had snakes manage to pop off the binder clips. Granted I don't know how they did it but I woke up one day to no binder clips....and no snake.

Cheeky little things. Now I use weights on lids.

You can try securing the top with binder clips. I prefer weatherproof tubs with locks on all sides. Most of my snakes are in pvc enclosures now but these are the ones I use for my snakes that are in quarantine.

I use those as temporary tubs on cleaning days. They are freakin hardcore. No way a snake could get out of those.

Nice EL! I think it's time for me to switch my quarantine tub today. Thanks.

I haven't had to reinforce any of my tubs so far, but my flimsiest tub (that I no longer have) I had the lid secured down with bungee cords. I put a few holes near the bottom and hooked both ends of the cords on either side of both ends. Then all I had to do is pull the loop up over the ends or push them off. Even with all my strength, I couldn't lift the lid at all.

I ended up doing this (2 on each side)... definitely overkill on the security but I live in an apartment complex and I don't even want to think about losing a snake here!
