Nota reptile, but an adorable 10 week old doberman puppy!

Name is undecided for now, but thinking of Diego or Ivan.

I haven't had a puppy in about a decade, so while not new, it's different lol.

I have always wanted a big dog. But due to apartment living all my life, never could have one. This is mom's little 'gift' to me for the new house. Still have 3 weeks before the move, but he was available now. =)

So happy I could just cry! ^_^

Congrats Mink. It's Christmas all the time at your place :). I like Dobies. They're very smart and protective dogs but they can be a little high strung when they're young. Best wishes with your boy. I like Diego between the two names.

@Ziggy

It sure feels like it lately! Lol. I am FINALLY in a comfortable zone in life where I can actually have things! Ever since I was young it was all about living paycheck to paycheck and sliding by with the bare minimums. Alot is happening all at once right now too. It's a little overwhelming, but in a good way. =)

WOW! What a gorgeous dog Em. I've always loved how Dobies look majestic.

Oh Em....he is GORGEOUS! I am torn about wether to crop his ears or not though. His are naturally small and perky , not big like a hound dogs. Just not sure I want to go through the process. But man do I love a good cropped dobie!

Thanks! He really is a great dog. The last dog I had before him was a german shepherd dog from champion police bloodlines. He was smart, but this doberman is smarter, and a much better family dog. I think you'll enjoy yours.

I sure hope so! My choices were between GSD and a Dobie. Long story how I ended up with this guy lol.

He is just SO full of energy! And talkative too lol. He likes to sass back when I tell him no and if I don't give him his treat right away, he barks at me like 'GIVE IT!' Lol. He also wears my 7 year old mix out in like 5 minutes, then she retreats to the couch (which he isn't allowed on). It's no joke for sure, but I am ready, willing, and determined to not just have a beautiful dog, but a well mannored, behaved, obedient companion. =)

I have a feeling that Sophie (older dog) and Remmy (tough cat) will assist in that as well lol. The cat has already stood his ground a few times, and Sophie has let him know that it is NOT ok to bite her feet or hump. Lol.

Doberman's are awesome, smart, protective, pretty much everything you want in a dog :) here's mine, his name is kaiser, he's in the 1% who won't protect you and tries to run away everyday, and is afraid of smaller dogs, my luck

Awww! Lol.

Ivan is smart. Learned his name, to come to his name, the term of correction (Eh!), sit, drop it, leave it, and started working on 'down' (like lay down), all on his first day!

Oh, and how to walk on a leash. Previous owner only ever used a harness, which he pulled on like CRAZY. Took him several corrections with a collar and leash, and he's pretty good all ready! Now to train him not to constantly walk into my leg whem walking lol.

He has already impressed me for sure, and mom calls him my little shadow or 'velcro' because he already follows me around everywhere lol.

Doberman scare the **** out of me if I'm honest. Handsome dogs but not one I could ever own!

Well...scaring people is part of their purpose. However, in reality, they are goofy, sweet, SUPER intelligent, loyal companions. =)

I guess they're a bit like the retic of the dog world. I can admire their characteristics from a distance but wouldn't want to get too up close and personal with one. Just a bit too much dog for me!

To be fair until I met my wife I would never have considered any dog at all but she had always had them so we had a pair of Greyhounds and I totally fell in love with them - great breed.

We're looking again for something when my little boy starts school but don't know for sure what yet.

Love him! I know... 4 or 5 people now that have acquired dobies in the last year. My first response is always 'good luck' but it sounds like you're doing perfect so far [I seriously wonder about at least one other friend...] I would love to have a one. Rotties were my favorite as a kid but I've kind of moved away from that. Big goofy slobbery rotts are awesome but I don't think they're really for me. Not sure a dobie would be either but I absolutely love those working dogs. I have a friend who does obedience and protection training [though in another state] and I vicariously live through her since my house is too small for a large breed and I don't want a small breed dog [been there, done that, several times, my passion is giant dogs]. While I don't think I'd ever want to do bitework, I absolutely love the level of obedience and the style of obedience those dogs have. There is nothing better than seeing a well trained dog walk side by side with its own while looking up at its owner's face. I just absolutely love well trained dogs.

Also, I'm Team NaturalEars. Cropped dobies do have a certain appeal but I just love their natural ears.

I was just going through an album of really old working dog photos like police and military. The WWII wardogs [dobies] had some awesome pictures on there. Landing on the beach and a line of soldiers with their dobermans, really impressive.

My mom used to have a greyhound, she always called the breed 'a cat in a dogs body' :D on average they're quiet gentle couch potato dogs!
