So while I'm checking out Pacman frogs and the like I've always loved frogs as a kid and while I'm still bouncing around pet ideas for when autumn comes, like the Bluey or Giant African Millipede, does anyone have any giant salamanders? .o Doesn't seem to be a thing I see a lot on the forum.
Anyone know any big ones and whether they can be handled? I'm mostly just curious for some interesting links I can read up on different species, I'm not even entirely sure I'll do an amphibian in the end. But salamanders as well as frogs were always a favorite. I used to pick up rocks by the river and try to spot them when going fishing with family. .) Good memories.
:EDIT: I guess I should clarify size too. I count handful as a "big" kind of salamander. Doesn't have to be a huge giant or something like that! .D

Not big on salamanders so i cant help you much as far as care goes. Just let me address the handling part. im sure as you know handling amphibians must be limited do to their absorbing skin. Human oils are harmful to them. Im thinking about getting some marbled salamanders. not large but beautiful.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention I knew that their skin didn't handle human oil very good! By handling I meant moving in case I had to clean the tank? Brief periods of time or if there were gloves I could use. XD That kinda thing.
:EDIT: Oh, those are pretty! They're like black and white big-spotted versions of the black and yellow ones around here in summertime!

There has been new legislation put forth by USFWS concerning the sale and proliferation of salamanders. That is part of the reason the captive availability has decreased. Its another reason to support USARK. They are fighting this battle for us.

YW. Nah, i have to take the modest route on that compliment though bc being here on sSnakeSs I have truly learned alot. Thanks. :)
We have a pair of Tiger Salamanders at work. They're a decent size. Normally they just sit burrowed under the logs and moss we have in their tank. Occasionally I'll see them hanging out in the water (especially after changing the water) or walking around. They are fun to feed though. They go nuts during feeding time.

Tiger salamanders can still be shipped. Salamanders need to stay cool though and are likely to become diseased if kept too warm. In general, no salamanders are really pets to be handled and are best to look at than handle.
