Realised i have not updated about little Hiro since i got him, so here's an update with proper pictures!.. he is doing very well, eats and sheds like a champ.. He tries to eat anyone who walks by at night (which due to his size, is very cute) But is very easy to handle. As you can see he is holding in quite a load, and he ended up soiling my cow blanket..:p

What big eyes! lol He's got a short little snout, too. He's definitely got that baby look. Genetic stripes are definitely one of my favorite retic morphs.

He really does have that baby look going on, and with his small size it is adorable :D i love Genetic stripes too.

Get one! this lill guy is now around a year old and still this size, how could anyone resist :D (he's probably going to have a massive spurt now that i said that)

Yeah so do i, i think it's awesome he has a bit of everything that genetics stripes can have.. The broad striping on the neck, followed by the highly irregular striping and then pinstriping, all on one animal. Every inch in different and that makes him very interesting to me.

6-8 ft.. For a true SD, they are very slender snakes though. A 8ft retic is very very small compared to a 8ft boa constrictor. Very important to get one from a reputable breeder if you truly want a animal that stays manageable.

I don't think I'm ready for a snake that size. I'll live vicariously through you, right now my BP is the biggest snake I have. My boa is still a noodle.
This is my 8' 50% super dwarf retic. He's a very manageable size. Most people are put off when they hear about snakes being 8,9, even 10'. But it's really subjective to the species. An eight foot Burmese or Boa Constrictor is built much different than a retic.

Wow I thought they were a much heavier bodied snake, I would have figured he'd be double or triple the width. That appears a manageable size.

In the wild alot of retics, even thesuper large ones, actually stay semi-aboreal. They use their length spread out over more branches so are nuuuuch lighter than a bermese and in most cases a boa. (Depending on the boa and relative length of course).
I believe that their personality and temperment is a bit unpredictable from snake to snake though. Some can be super active and spazzy while others might be mildly active and chill. Some may hide all the time. While others may make a great display.
One day...in the far future...I WILL have an SD retic. =)

I think my saving grace is the fact there aren't any SD retic breeders north of the border. Would have made a new addition a much more difficult one :p

Yup they are WAAAAAY lighter than a boa. My BCI is 6.5' and 4,144 grams. My retic is right around 6', and barely over 1,000 grams. Significant difference between the two. She looks maybe 5' until she stretches along her 4'x2'.

Retics are very slender compared to most other giants, they do tend to have a bit of personality to make up for it haha. Do not underestimate their strength obviously, when my purple retic was the same weight as my labyrinth burm.. The retic was definitely stronger... But a fully grown real SD isn't all that big so not all that strong either :D, (I keep saying real, because i have seen newborn mainlands or dwarves being sold as yearling SD's, which would be a very unpleasant surprise...) .. Also in character, they're unique, highly intelligent which is great! (This 'lill one is a bit of a bonehead though, the others are smarter haha) One of the foremost reasons i love retics.. Don't think you can easily trick them about which side the tank is going to open, they know.. Capture bred isn't all that bad, this little guy is very friendly (Very food driven, hook training is essential).. My current retics are all pretty ok to handle (My tiger is a thrasher, in and outside the terrarium), and are all successfully hook trained. 3 out of 4 will try to get me through the glass at night, that's how strong the food drive is. It's not an animal anyone should get, but it is a great addition for anyone willing to enjoy their strong personality!

Thanks mate, and that's a damn shame..

That would be my biggest fear being sold a mislabeled giant. No breeders up here that I've found and getting anything over the border is very expensive. That's funny a snake being described as smart or a bonehead lol
