The ever-elusive shield-nose cobra (Aspidelaps scutatus) from Southern Africa. This is a CB2012 male that I've raised up along with a CB2011 female. They should be ready to go either this year or next.

Amazing, your collection always makes me drool. What the potency like on these guys?

Thank you, D Grade. A. scutatus are capable of producing a lethal bite, but there have not been a lot published case studies. Among the few published reports is a fatal bite to a 4-year old child, in which the cause of death was cardiac arrest. However, they're also relatively small and clumsy, so its relatively easy to avoid a bite if you stick to the common management protocols.

Where do you come up with this stuff Night? I've not seen nor heard of this animal until today. Thanks for sharing. Another amazing critter. It's the beauty of animals and nature that make me believe in intelligent design. :)

LOL @ small and clumsy, I will have to see if I can find a vid or two and see how they act (sounds funny). I guess that could be a draw back of not being a true Cobra. :D

Very amazing member of the collection. I have to ask if you have a H. Haemachatus (Rinkhals)? I absolutely love em' and don't know of anyone on here that has one in captivity.

I had H. Haemachatus for the past few years, but just traded off my adult female last week. They're fun snakes, and entirely underappreciated.

If you like rinkhals, then you will probably enjoy this picture (http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/field-herping/111291-field-picture-rinkhals-hemachatus-haemachatus.html) I took of one in the wild. It is far better than any of the pics of captive specimens that I've taken.

That is an epic photo! What a rush that must have been to see in the wild.
