Hi I am a student who is making a paludarium (half water and half land) for a school project. The problem with this is that I don't if a leopard gecko would work. Here is some information about the tank:

-water is 8 inches deep (but will be covered with branches to prevent drowning)
-Fish will include guppies and platies
-20 gallons (essentially 10 gallons of water and 10 gallons of land)

I know that they don't really suit the environment well, but is there some way around this? Here is some pictures of the tank: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx...1g1aU5IM2F2OGc

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps anoles would be a better lizard, they like higher humidity and can crawl the branches and sides.

You already posted about this.

Also, the way you describe it as being 10 gallons of land and 10 gallons of water is wrong. It's only that much if 'filled'.

8 inches of water is ok, but not ideal unless it's the full bottom of the tank, not just half of it. Even if you do it in a 20 gallon long, it wouldn't be enough water to properly cycle for the fish.

Add to that you want to add a leopard gecko to this set up? The humidity would cause all kinds of issues.

What happened to you wanting to do a frog?

I agree with trailblazer, Anoles would be a much better choice. Leos just aren't made for that environment.. And as mink said, the humidity will cause you a whole mess of issues... I would get some fire-bellied toads and put them in, i think they'd be the best land creature you can use to be honest. Also, I would recommend getting a filter of some sort for the water so the fish have clean water to process.

@minkness, when I used a bio-active cage for my leos, they frequently had humidity over 70% so I doubt it would be a problem, personally I would be worried about it drowning in the pool part, even you you did 1/2 land 1/2 water there really wouldnt be room for a leo, care sheets say 10 is acceptable but 20 is sooo much better for them, why would you keep them in a small and probably unsuitable habitat? Get a frog, it would use the land and water

Can I ask why you have 4 of essentially the same thread?
