Hi I'm still new to owning a snake. Rocky and me have come a long way together. Tank set up to his liking quiet location in bedroom and attention. I'm proud to say he finally ate for me first time 3 weeks ago and two days in a row last week. I hear I should not feed him again until he poops. Is this true and why hasn't he pooed yet. And advice greatly appreciated
Tsubaki

Fancymojo, please open your own thread in stead of hijacking this one. We can answer your questions there. Just a quick bit of info, you do not have to wait for a snake to defecate to feed again., they dont poop on command or schedule. However if you have more questions about your snake include info like : species , age , gender , set up.

I`m try to breed my Ball Pythons... I maked 1 month winter for them, then give a rat to them, they successfully shedd. Now they are together in male box.
But nothing happens yet, they are active only at night. How much time I may waiting for mating?

Well, congrats for attempting to breed your ball pythons. How old are they? What are the weights? Are they both healthy? These are the questions that we need to start with. Oh, are you sure about the sexes? Usually if those are all confirmed then its a process of introduction and separation for no more than 3 days at a time. Just bc you don't see actual mating doesn't mean it's not taking place.
Selena_23
05-12-16, 04:51 PM
Yes, everything is OK! Male 924 g (2 year). Female 1537g. (2 year and 10 months)
I have cheсked their sexes. That`s OK.
Now it is looking like this. Night time. And not a hint of luck...
https://pp.vk.me/c628818/v628818325/51f19/bEimn4ftQ8I.jpg
Albert Clark
05-12-16, 06:13 PM
So, with that confirmed it is a process now of introductions. You have already started with that so the separation is equally important in setting the tone. I would watch for the females next shed and keep them apart until she is completely done with her shed. Then start over with the introductions and separations. Only keep them together for 3 days at a time. Once you see a actual lock, you will still have to go with the scheduled separation. Of course only when they have unlocked. Some breeders will do temperature drops during the night prior to the introduction phase as a form of conditioning and follicular development but that is purely optional and controversial. Good luck and you have a great collection!

Thanks U, Albert! ;-)
Albert Clark
05-13-16, 07:08 AM
Thanks U, Albert! ;-)
YW. Now if you decide to do temperature night drops then lower the temp only 8F that to me, is more than enough. The risk with dropping it too much over time is a respiratory infection in the animal. That is the biggest controversy in the night dropping of the temps. Especially if the drop is excessive.
Selena_23
05-13-16, 08:11 AM
8F?? That is -13°C. О_о
They already have a winter time for a 1 month. Do you think this is not enough?
Or just reduce their night-time temperature, but how? In our apartment +22° night. Summer)
Albert Clark
05-13-16, 09:23 AM
When you say "winter", what temperature did you keep them at for that month? I am one who doesn't cool my pythons at all. I have been very successful w/o cooling at all. I don't recommend it but there is alot in the literature to support it and breeder anecdotal reporting that supports it. IMO, i would go straight to the introduction and separation phase.
Selena_23
05-13-16, 12:09 PM
It was about +20°C.
Albert Clark
05-13-16, 03:20 PM
+20c = 68f. That is kind of really cooling.. They may be in the process of recovering. That would be okay for most who do cool I guess though. As long as they are healthy now then it's just a matter of time before they begin locking up.
Selena_23

Dear Albert, can You tell me
Is it real bad affects "fatness of males" ?
My male BP is about 2.5 years old and has 924 g weight.
That is OK?
Or it can be a reason of his passive behavior?
Albert Clark
05-16-16, 05:55 PM
That 924 gms for a male that is 2.5 years old is great. Over feeding leading to fatty liver disease in ball pythons is very problematic in the captive population. You don't have that problem here with this male. He looks very healthy even in the dark lighting in the picture.
Albert Clark
05-17-16, 04:27 AM
The male that you are referring to is your male spider though, right? I see that pastel is the female. They go when the stimulus is there Selena. Keep pairing them up and separating them. As soon as the female sheds make sure the male gets in there. If he is getting ready to shed or is in a shed i would not pair them up until his shed cycle is complete.

Yeah Selena, i figured it out afterwards, lol.

Yeah, it's a process and will be successful in time and with repetition. Just look at it as something you do to elicit breeding behavior response.

I have a news.
But
Maybe I am mistaken. So... We did it!
Looking at my Female BP, she is getting Bigger and Heavier !
+ 150 g for last 9 days, gargantuan appetite, and very passive behavior.
The body is lying almost on its side. What are U thinking about it?

Very nice Selena! Did you get him from a reputable breeder? I thought cinnamons had a black stripe down their back usually?

I thought he looked more like a black pastel.. Just went to wobp and saw the example of cinnamon and they certainly have a black stripe on the back. trying to upload the link now.

06-17-16, 11:44 AM
Just because the animal has a black back does not mean it is part of the morph description. Black pastel and cinnamon are very similar morphs with cinnamon having somewhat cleaner alien heads and showing more reds than yellow tinting in the light browns.

MC, black back is a different morph. The cinammon morph is distinguishable from a normal typically by a "black or dark brown " stripe on their backs. Anyway i am having difficulty getting the link to WOBP pics of the cinnamon morph.
RAD House
06-17-16, 11:56 AM
You are referring to genetic black back, black back can also be used describe an animal that is lacking a light dorsal striping regardless if it genetic or not. It is a bit confusing for sure. Both cinnamons and black pastels can be characterized by their darker than normal coloration, but this can not always be relied on because normals can be quite variable and there are other dark morphs. The combination of a darker animal with an increased number of smaller alien heads is the best way to identify these two morphs. Then to tell the difference between black pastel and cinnamon refer to my earlier post.

Well, no bc you began referring to it as a "black back". I called it as it is defined , a black or dark brown stripe on the back of the cinnamon morph. I know about "dinkers" and their variability. It's actually not that confusing, taking into account the alien heads and the coloration people will still disagree on a classification from time to time and if it was sold to her as a cinnamon and she is happy with that then that's what really counts.

Additionally, i will defer to the literature for differences in morphs and classifications and not someones opinion in a post.

My opinion is taken directly from literature and has little to no influence of my personal feelings on the subject. Personally I do not feel I have been in the hobby long enough to form my own opinions on such a complex topic. In no description I have read is a cinnamon said to have a solid black dorsal stripe. Unless you show me where exactly you read this, the I am going to say you probably misunderstood the description. This snake is in my opinion a great example of a cinnamon ball python.

Both of those animals have light dorsal striping, but look at the side pattern. Look at the description on bp dot net. You are telling someone that their snake is not what they were told when you are not familiar with the morph. I respect your opinion Albert but in this case you are wrong.

You are not reading what i said correctly. In post# 47 i said "I thought cinnamons had a black stripe on their back usually". What i also said was that if that was what the animal was sold as and Selena is happy with that, then that's what really counts. Also, in my last post i said Selenas bp doesn't look like the specimens on WOBP. You don't know what i'm familiar with. Don't take my statements and make them what you want them to be.

And i differ with your interpretation of "light dorsal striping". The coloration is visibly brown to dark brown/ black. Have a fantastic day.

Very hard to beat your collection Selena. Grats! The other issue of possibility with the pastel is that she reabsorbed the follicles. Which doesnt mean she can't produce in the future. Good luck.

The Macropisthodon rudis-I missed toy posting these because I was that taken with your Retic.
I have heard they have a nasty bite on them though if they feel like it and was just wondering whether this was really the case.

These should be handled with a lot of caution as they have mobile fangs and do possess "mild/ potentially lethal" neurotoxic venom so hopefully the OP doesn't know what the bite is like. :)

So...
I want say some words about Michal Necid "MN REPTIL":unibrow:
1. He lied to me. He said that the Hypo green I originally booked and MADE AN ADVANCE payment - died.
Then, he just decided ti keep it himself, and send me another animal. And until recently it argued that this is exactly what I have booked.
BAD. Very negative experience.
2. The second animal was - Orange Granit.
We can found following micro-organisms:
- Kriptospiridii. 6 oocysts in a smear.
- Flagellates +++ (a large of)
- Epithelial cells.
All this bouquet + NO tone in the muscles. At all.:sorry:
Michal Necid: CITATION ©
Most pythons have these opportunistic pathogens. It does not mean anything. If you investigate other healthy pythons, they will have these too. Only during the increased stress (transport, low temperature, other infections) can cause health deterioration and increase the number of pathogens. These pathogens normally live in snakes all theirs live. Just as people have commonly hundreds serotypes Escherichia coli in intestinum.
Tell your vet to go back in school...
If your vet is fair, he would recomend you keep the snake in warm, quite terrarium and feed him ! It is already long time it have not ate. But you took it to place where is the higher concentration virus, bacterie, ... - in vet. Clinik ! I understand the vet : he needs money (80 EUR). And I am sure, he recomend you to come again !
I know, in Rusia is very low temperature now, so instead of quite staing in cage after stresfull transport to your country you provide the granite winter traveling ...
You got photos both snakes 2 weeks before Hamm. You could see - were perfect. You got the snakes which were on the photos !
I am sure that the snakes were perfect. But if you still travel with snake after traveling to Russia in winter you expose the snake danger that he catch some desease, especially in vet clinik. First of all you should feed the snake and provide him time to digest and recover after stresfull transport. But you took him to the worst place - clinik in vinter time!
If you want find some problem, finaly you get the problem !
I finish converzation with you. You still insult me.
So...
I am a fool, and he is Good boy:unibrow:
Disgusting seller.

Wow, sorry you had to endure this with "MN REPTIL". This absolutely sounds like a case for the BOI (BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION) at Fauna Classifieds. I am not sure how they handle out of country cases but you should inquire on the site. You should have been afforded a refund, partial refund, or store credit based on their terms of service. How can they just send you a different animal without your consent or desire to have a different animal sent to you? This sounds rather problematic and needs immediate attention. He obviously is incorrect about the Cryptosporidium parasite which is a very difficult one to eradicate and is a serious infestation of the digestive tract. Certainly Cryptosporidium is the one endoparasite you absolutely don't want your reptile to have. Please keep us updated on your progress going forward with this.

...Board of Inquiry...but yes, definitely bring it there. You would want to post it in the international board of inquiry (they have 3, the BOI for USA only, the CBOI for Canada only, and the International for all others) along with proof of any conversations via screenshots. Furthermore, it's a forum to inform others of bad dealings, they don't investigate anything aside from verification of people's location or their identification...but perhaps you should still post there to make people aware.
Sorry you had a bad experience, Selena

Sorry you had a bad experience, Selena Thanks for the correction Andy. I was so appalled, i just kind of lost it as i replied. Thanks also for the references to the other BOI departments.

No, but any breeder or seller that tries to say that cryptospprodium is normal and blaming the buyer is unethical. I don't need to dpeak with him to figure out what kind of person he is. :(
