Would fetch my booked little jungle carpet, but went home with a totally different snake. Instead I bought a small female ( djj / sc 10 month ). Very nice speedy little lady with looots of attitude. Will be interesting to change the water and clean in her terrarium :) :) :)

Thanks! Her attitude is really special. More attack than defense. Will use soft neoprene gloves when handling her, so she does not destroy her teeth against the bony parts in the hand:)

My baby IJ was like that at first, struck at anything that moved. She's calmed down considerably since then, and I've learned to pay attention to her mood as well. There are some times she's more likely to act cage-defensive than others, but once she's in hand she's not a problem.
Of course, there are some that never do lose the attitude, but you've still got quite a beauty either way.

I have pretty big adult female jungle, who have not lost her attitude. Neither in the terrarium or outside. She is tap trained and quite manageable if you handle her properly, but have a h-ll of a bite so you have to be careful and not let her get too close to your face :)

Congrats on the pickup! Very impressive reptile.

Thanks! The goal with this litter was to produce jaguars, but the siblings became fine too:)

The little female (hanging under, thermo / hygrometer) seem to thrive in her new environment. Now she will be left alone a week or two before the first feeding.

Have already found a good basking place and winds around in the cage without fear. Really cocky little snake:cool:

Have changed little in the cage. Removed the hideaways on the ground ( she does not use them ), raised the branches and clothed them with plastic plants. Was clearly better and she became more active.

Your enclosure looks great G. What did you cover the sides and back with?

Thanks. It's just a ordinary background to aquarium.

Yesterday I fed her the first time. A 48 gr rat was a cinch and left a nice big bump on her body. Will be feeding her with small rats (45-55gr). One every two weeks in three maybe four months before I try a little larger prey:)

Thanks! It's a pretty large terrarium for a small carpet, but it's working really great. Will be exciting to follow her growth and see if there will be any more color changes. She is only 10 months old (22 / 5-15).

Large prey and various day and night temperatures were a little tough for the little snake. Skipping temperature reduction and uses infrared day and night for maximum digestion. Will lowering the night temperature again when she has grown bigger.

Genetically she's got so much potential. My boys just a normal caramel so she might be a little out of his league but we like to aim high around here :). Is your girl still a little defensive? My male musked me twice when I first got him but he's super chill now. Did you say you're feeding her a small meal every 2 weeks and she's 10 months? That could be a reason for her being grumpy. She might be hungry. Try feeding her a bit more and she'll probably settle down. I feed my snakes a bit more generously :). My carpets get fed every 5 days until they turn 1, every 7-10 days until they turn 2, every 10-14 days to 3, and every 2+ weeks thereafter. In any event, your girl has an admirer. ;)

Chomper is very nice:)
All offsprings from that female ( super caramel ) have a mixture of aggressive/defensive behavior. It's very special and not comparable to normal frightened/nippy carpet hatchlings. She will calm down a bit with age, but will probarly never become a docile carpet. But i like snakes with attitude:) Rats around 50 gr are a pretty large meal for her and the two weeks schedule is the same schedule as she had at the breeder. She even grows faster than I expected so it's soon time to give her bigger rats than 50gr.

Newly shed girl who has grown a bit since i bought her. She's got thicker branches that will suit her quite a while and seem to thrive well even though there isn't much to hide behind:)

Beautiful snake. Carpets are very much on my wishlist - they fit very much in the big but not silly range for me and the markings are to die for even in their natural colours

Thanks! Yes, carpets are nice snakes. Affordable price and many colorful morphs to choose among. They are also easy to care for and the size of a fully grown morelia spilota is quite manageable for one person.

My little caramel is almost a year old now and has got a bit of the golden caramel color. Is still very forward and have (as E.Z said) a lot of spitfire attitude. Love it:)

Thanks Tsubaki! I am very pleased with her. She is a feisty little snake with strong feeding response, but have with handling/tap training become a little easier to handle. The plan is that we become friends before she reaches 7-8 feet. Because then the bites are not so charming anymore :)

Looking great G! I'm surprised she's still giving you attitude. They usually calm down fairy quickly. What's your feeding regiment like?

gebon
09-04-16, 12:05 AM
Thanks El Ziggy! Nothing strange about that. It's just a family trait. Very bitchy mom:) Currently I feed her with preys around 10 % ( 100 gr ) once every 7-10 days. Every two weeks when she is feeding on 15%- preys.

LOL, sounds like you know exactly what you're dealing with G. That's why they make gloves and hooks! :)

I use a pair of fly fishing gloves in neoprene. They are very soft, pretty thick and don't destroy their teeth. They also have very good grip, so you can hold the snake without squeezing it despite that it winds around like a worm on the hook :)
