Meet Bellatrix - my Californian red sided garter (sirtalis infernalis) :D

So I havnt had a small snake in years, in fact nothing below a BRB size since I had my first cornsnake... But I've absolutely fallen in love with this little garter species, Californian red sided garters!!

Don't get me wrong, I love my boa's and there's nothing that matches my retic for intelligence and fun but Bella is full of so much character.. Well actually she's full of hate and melodramatics to be honest haha!! :D

She's always diving around the tank after her food (she's a mouse feeder, the guy who sourced her for me converted her very well) and I think the was she postures when threatened with a flattened head is cute as hell lmao, which I don't think is quite her intention... Bites me all the time and musks profusely but you've just gotta love her!!

Thanks everyone, Im so pleased with her it's unbelievable.. Had her a couple month now atleast but I'm not too active on here anymore. To be honest I didn't even ask for this subspecies lol... I just asked my guy to source me a garter and this is what he got me, he gets an A* for that in my books..... And it looks like I have a male on the way for her, he's a lucky snake that gets to pair with this beauty haha :D

The defensive behavior is typical for hatchlings. Especially t.s.infernalis hatchlings. They do calm down with varying degrees depending on the individual personality and handling sessions.

Hey this is my snake, (had to re open a new account, the last one messed up)...

To be honest, no she hasn't calmed down at all.. If anything her dramatics are worse but as has been said... It's totally worth it to keep something so striking in appearance. 😃

Bellatrix is now named Diablo... Got probed as a male, his new girlfriend is Bellatrix 2 hahaha....

Yeah I handle her all the time, if your fast enough she only lands a couple of bites... She just doves everywhere with her mouth upon and flattens her head to scare me off.... Totally adorable in my opinion lol..

Yeah the species is diurnal so really active in the daytime. Always up to something lmao :D

Not when we move. The deal is if I buy her the house she wants I can have the snakes I want (within reason). I have been set a limit of 5 snakes I believe so the C. paulsoni, some form of colubrid and a garter. She's reasonable.

The two lizards are cleared also :).

Anything else will be by negotiation...
