Hi,
A while ago I posted some threads with questions about burms because I was getting one and he is finally here! Well, I actually got him on Valentines day but was letting him settle and he also happened to be in shed when we first got him. This is just my second time handling him and so far he has been pretty calm. He is a little cage defensive, he does not strike but kind of hisses and jumps around little. Other than that he's has been very comfortable and I actually see him out and about more than my boa. He is about 3 months old and looks to be around 2 feet long. He is het hypo and I think it shows through as he has very vibrant colors. I am custom building enclose which should be done in a couple of weeks. Ill post some more photos later on and when he goes in to the new enclosure.
Thanks for reading!
If there are any other burmese keeper out there that could share some tips to a first time owner that would be great!
I have nothing to give but my compliments. He is a lovely animal. I very much like the hypo morph.

Congratulations he's a beautiful burm, I would start tap training him right away. And please don't think I'm being cheeky but I don't think he's het hypo it's genetically impossible I believe. He's more likely to be het albino :) and still stunning no matter what he's het for ;)
What Dave said. Hypo will always be visual. Beautiful snake anyways. Good luck and congratulations!

I just checked and you guys are right, he actually is het albino. Don't know why I though he was het hypo...:hmm: I have started tap training him and he seems to be responding well to it. Here is a picture of him from this morning. He is very inquisitive and wants to see what is going on around him.

Don't rush to see him full grown. Enjoy him as a hatchling / juvenile. He is amazing! I want to own one someday. Be prepared to feed him appropriate sized meals so he stays satiated. That will be very important. I'm sure Dave is able to expound on that. Terrific pick up and actually which breeder did he come from?

He is just from a small breeder here where I live. He just has a small hobby collection and he rarely breeds a clutch of Burmese since there is not much demand after the Lacey Act.:(
I guess I should savor the times when is is little because it won't last long, especially with his appetite!
I've found the same thing in Ohio regarding the lacy act. No one breeds because they state there isn't enough demand. But whenever I see baby burms for sale at shows locally(mostly morphs) they're way more expensive than before the lacy act and they sell almost immediately.

Wow! He really looks amazing. Congrats. They really should be the poster reptile of the hobby/ industry. Also bc of what's taken place in Florida.

Beautiful. Always loved their markings. I wish there was a variety that stayed that smallish! I'm not cut out for keeping giant snakes.
There's dwarf burms, but they tend to have an attitude problem

I have heard this as well. I have also heard about the possibility of breeding out the "little man syndrome", but I cannot comment on how practical it is.
I would hope it is true so I can have a small hypo myself.

Oddly enough with burmese when you breed a male dwarf to a female normal giant the resulting babies are nearly identical e in size to the dwarf Burms and have that laid back captive bred for 50 years disposition.

The only two dwarf burms I had dealings with were 100% dwarf wild type/normals that had just traveled the whole way from the Hamm show in Germany to N.Ireland. They were still pretty warm but even when we heated them up they were still nice and calm and easily handled. The last I heard the guy ordered them said their temperament had remained the same. I'm not saying all dwarfs are like this I'm just saying it may be down to the individual snake :)
