View Full Version : Popeye's Progression Thread - This one will work.
Hi all,
My last progression thread got a bit messy because of the photo uploads. My Imgur account will hopefully remedy this. We'll start with pic from yesterday, of a post shed Popeye in the sun.

Popeye is looking great Herpo. He has beautiful colors. I'm sure he feels pretty good too after that rat. I love the last picture.
Such a cutie!!! cant wait till this thread kicks off with heaps of updates :)
And another update! He's eating soon, so I'll post some pics of that. Quail is on the menu. Here are some recent pics:

Very nice Herpo. Has Popeye eaten quail before? I've haven't tried quail with any of my snakes yet. I did give my young jungle his first chick this weekend. It took him a while to figure out how to eat it but he got it down with no problem. I'm looking forward to pics of Popeye downing that quail. :)

Popeye is a beautiful looking carpet, I think I'm just going to specialize in Australia pythons, I have such a fascination for them

dear herpo, popeye is really a fine looking snake. you took some great pictures.
Thank you everyone!
El Ziggy, this is his second quail. He takes everything down basically, he has no problem eating...once he finds the head XD.
I only gave them to him recently because his staple is rats, and young carpets are very fond of quail, being known to refuse all other food once they've tasted it. So we waited around 10 months.
Jpsteele, they are great animals to work with. Olives, carpets, and the antaresia genus are my favourites. And the gtps and white lips are beautiful.
I'll upload the feeding pics this afternoon when I get home from school.
Cheers,
Herpo

I used to have a carpet python a long while back, he always very nervous and never out grew that
Not all are like that. Most are like that when young, and eventually grow out of it. Which species was he?
Also, I'll post pics tomorrow, my internet is running slow, so uploading images to Imgur takes ages.

Gorgeous snake, thanks for sharing.
Thanks for all your replies everyone! Here is the promised feeding pic, little man took the quail right in his water bowl. It was pretty interesting!

I took him out into the grass for the first time today. It was so cute to see how curious he was, periscoping above the grass and flickering his tongue like crazy, following the movement of the flies!
Today, he decided he'd take a wander around Mum's fake plants!

Wow that first photo is absolutely stunning!! he's such a cutie. i love when they explore the garden mercy was periscoping for ages too when i first took her out :)
They have so much charisma, don't they?
haha they sure do it's awesome
I can't wait for him to get older and for me to be able to get him his final enclosure!
It's funny you say that ive been eager to do the same! i suppose we just gotta appreciate them while they are still relatively small because they are going to grow like weeds and before we know it we will be wishing they were young again! haha :)
That seems to be the common consensus XD!
Today is feeding day! He seemed really active when I went to weigh him (now at 358g), so I let him go outside a bit. And the little guy was once again curious of what grass and wind and all the light was!

He did my homework with me yesterday! Sat on my shoulders the whole time, staring down at the sheet. I love him, he's such a great snake!
Awww such a beautiful personality! i love when they do activity's with you its so cute haha
Popeye turned one while we were away, so I figured I'd let him on the clothesline to get some sun! Hard to believe a year ago he was a fiery little worm...they grow up so fast...

Wow, he's a big boy Herpo! Looks great too! You can definitely see the coastal size but the jungle colors. Very nice.
Thank you Ziggy! I'm hoping the colours brighten up. A massive jungle is an attractive prospect!

Nah he's a modest noodle. He was reading about everyone's tastes in music!

Wow gorgeous. And with the coastal in Popeye, I'm probably looking at more than 4 kilos. She's an impressive gal though, definitely!

Just feed it with biiig prey, one at the time ( not several smaller ones ) and it will surely grow larger than my djungel:)
Yeah, he's currently taking weaner rats or 10 day quail, one or the other every seven days.
