feeding question?

Hi I was just wondering if anyone uses a seperate feeding tank for there beardies???

i dont have beardies but i would if i were using something that if they digested could cause harm, i think repti sand or calci sand is ok, but bark id watch out.

substrate is paper towel he is a 2 month old and the crickets hide in rocks ect

i leave veggies in the tank with the beardie, but when i feed it crickets i take it out and handfeed them one at a time. or when im in a hurry i just put everything in a 10 gallon and let it eat as much as it wants in there.
ive never had any problems handfeeding, and i have never been bitten.
but feeding in a seperate tank is just as good if not better.

Calci-sand is the least safe substrate in my experience. I've assisted in the necropsy of about 600 adult beardies that died as a result of calcium sand impactions. I've seen over 700 that were impacted on playsand, but when you consider how very small a percentage of beardies are actually kept on the calcium sands it is actually by far the more dangerous of the two.

Oh, I use plastic shoeboxes as feeding tanks, very light and easy to sterilize. That way I don't have to chase those rare uneaten crix around the cage so they don't munch on my darlings overnight.

Personally i never feed any of my reptiles in different enclosures i feed them all in there living corters. For my bearded dragon(Frodo) i just throw in like 4-5 crickets and i have a salad platter in the corner of the tank for him which he loves to sleep in(lol). And same with my two snakes i just feed them in their tanks.

I tried feeding mine in a separate tank and all he would do was stand in the corner and not move. I think if you can get your beardie to feed in a separate tank it's a good idea. As eyespy mentioned I have to be very vigilant to make sure no cricks are left in with him overnight.

Plastic shoeboxes are small enough that you put them right inside the tank, then plop the beardie in with the crix. Believe me, if the crix are in there first, they don't seem to mind! If your cage is too small to fit a plastic shoebox in, then it's really too small for a beardie.

The beardie can climb out of the box when he's done eating but the sides are too slippery for the crix to climb.

I feed all 3 of my beardies outside of their enclosures. Most of the time I just put one at a time in the cricket holder and let them have at it. Sometimes I'll let them have fun and put a cricket on the carpet and let the beardies (one at a time) stretch their legs and run after it.

I feed my 2 beardies in there inclosure so when i take them out to handle them and show friends and family, they dont think that its time to eat and bite on some1s finger.

But also i will sometimes puy my BDs on the ground and throw him and her a couple crix so he and she can get there exersice:joker:
