Hello everyone!

Many know of my...'condition'...being a reptiholic is not an easy path, especially when faced with the addiction any time you make a food run for your current collection.

That is exactly what happened to me last Sunday when I made a stop after work to pick up some feeders. I should know better than to look around, but alas...I did. So many lovely things I'd love to take home with me, but I am getting ready to move and told myself no more till after the move. For those who know me...I'm sure you know how incapable I am of keeping my word when reptiles are involved.

I have always been interested in kingsnakes, but my 1st one didn't work out, so I have been hesitant to get another. Well, while in the store I saw they had a new baby...a hypo brooks king. I pulled him out to hold him, which drew a family over who had 3 kids, all with questions. So, being me I talked with them, all the while holding the little brooks. He was very calm the whole time and was easily passed from kid to kid and back to me.

Well...I fell in love and decided I would give kingsnakes another go. Had him sexed to make sure of gender (because I'm just like that) then packed him up and took him home.

I was torn between naming him Ramses or King Tut. Since I couldn't decide, I just settled on Pharaoh lol.

He has already taken 1 meal with me without issue, and is still being a bit shy in his new home, but is still calm when held (only took him out today for pics but have been leaving him alone otherwise)

So, here's my newest addition!

Thanks everyone! I'm pretty smitten with him myself. I just peeked into my room to check on everyone (and the temps since I'm running a heater) and he was actually out and about!

I was bad and couldn't leave him alone tonight lol.

He was out and about again when I was headed to bed so took him out for a bit. I spooked him when I picked him up, but after that he was a breeze! Also, I swear he poses! In several pics I took, he was just cool as a cucumber. Other times he had a relaxed but interested tongue flick going.

Because so many people commented on his head markings, I also managed to get better shots of those!

Beautiful snake there Mink! Kings are third on my list of snakes I want but can't have, after hognoses and boas.

Beautiful, If I saw one of those I'd be bringing it home too (unless it was at PetCo or PetSmart and priced 2-3x the going rate...) We're going to the Hamburg reptile show at the end of the month, and if I can't find a woma I'll probably be bringing home a king of some sort. Our thayeri pair are great, mellow little snakes. Just don't handle them if if your fingers smell like mice, or they'll try to eat one. Actually had to run a bit of water over the little female the last time she tried to eat a finger, she was determined, lol. Otherwise they're very good handlers, not flighty at all.
Does the brooks like to burrow in the substrate? Our thayeri are as likely to be burrowed in the aspen as hanging out in one of the hides. Usually out in the open at night though, and if it's close to feeding day they'll come right out when I open the top.

Thank you for all the kind words!

I can already see a difference between him and my last kingsnake who always stayed hidden. He was out AGAIN this moring and only flinched when Ibalmost bumped his tub. Other than that, he stayed totally chill!

He must know he's too pretty to stay hidden lol!

Nope, I can't!

I have no plans of stopping any time soon either lol. I have a list and I'm trying to stick to it another kingsnake was on that list, just not as a priority (priority is my boa and a future 'gf' for him lol). Also want to get my hands on a cbb breeding pair (or 2 pairs really) of red eyed crock skinks! Just gotta get that house first!

Lol I understand. Sounds like a good plan! I'm planning for a new addition myself, and of course there will be many more in the future.

Yup! I will eventually also have a super caramel jag IJ carpet and a BRB, but trying toslow down so I have more money to spend on the house and a future feathery addition that is by means cheap! Lol

Nice little brooksi. They are a really fun species. Once he gets some size, watch your fingers, they mistake them for food sometimes. ;)

Pretty! We both have problems with buying snakes:D Though if I had known that I was going to have to fix up my old car this month I wouldn't have bought the last one I did haha

Nice pick up Mink! Your collection is growing nicely. Stick to your quarantine practices. Hypos and ghost genes always are great projects. Good luck with him.

Thanks! I doubt I'll breed him, but who knows. My collection will probably explode once I get the house and get some enclosures built lol.
