Hi everyone just wanted to get some opinions on desert morphs I haven't seen to many of them and now they are showing up here and there. I was told to seriously look into them and to stay as far away as possible. My opinion on the subject I think they look amazing and would definitely look into them.

I actually find the morph to be pretty, but there are sooooo many others out there that are just as nice if not better. The health issues with the females wouldn't be too big of a deal of idiots didn't feel like they are an exception to the outcome and try to breed them anyway. If peopl could seriously just have them as pets, cool, but somce soooo many people in this hobby are in it to breed (nothing wrong with that btw), I find that producing female deserts are boarderline inhumane and should be euthanized to prevent a worse future life.
Just my opinion though, and I'm sure that others will strongly disagree.

I have heard there are problems with producing valuable clutches from females. Either eggs will be laid and not hatch or the babies die a few days after hatching but there are some out there. I think starting a desert project would be interesting minus the loss of clutch and babies. I already have a female 100%het desert ghost and I'm obtaining a desert male.

It's not that the babies aren't viable, it's that it causes the female to die as well.

I haven't heard that yet before that's why I wanna get peoples opinions on the subject.

Yup. Something like 85% of females doe before they lay, or soon after, and those who do lay they are all slugs.
Please don't breed her =(

Eggs are never laid. The females all die beforehand being egg bound.
Also, desert and desert ghost are two different genes. Poorly named though.
Before you start a desert project do understand MANY people in the hobby look down upon those who do now that there's so much information available out there about them. You could certainly lose credibility as a "good breeder" for walking down this path in the eyes of many.

Slight correction, to my knowledge there's only been 1 female who survived after being bred and that was due to having surgery to remove the eggs just in time.
So 85% would be closer to 99.5%.
Your other points are spot on.

Ah, ok then, that makes it even more important not to do it!

If the female is a desert, she will die. If the male is a desert, do what you want.
Aaron is an established breeder of BPs so he is more than knowledgable and experienced in this matter.

Yes it's been well documented. People have claimed to have desert females breed just fine but then discover it was improperly sold to them as a desert or desrt combo and they end up being another mutation.
Why would you think I, or anyone else, simply make this up with google? If you truly think it hasn't happened then how do you think people came to these conclusions?
