Burmese Python Feeding Frequency

Hey,
I am getting a baby burm in just over a week. He will be about 2 feet and 3 months old. I am hoping any of you other burmese owners could tell me how often should I feed him when he is little and when should I decrease feeding frequency when he gets older. I don't want to stunt him but I also don't want to power feed or get him too fat, so I am wondering what is a healthy feeding schedule.

Treat him like any snake. Some babies I put them on a feed of ever 3-5 days or 5-7 days. Once they hit medium rats I do one every 7-10 days and so on

There's no reason to feed a rodent-eating snake more often than every 7 days, Burms grow fast enough as it is, and I'd consider feeding them every 3 days as a form of power-feeding.

I'd say feeding once every 7-10 days until 1-2 years old is sufficient, then move onto biweekly. Adult retics should be fed once a month, so I assume the same is true for Burms, since they're heavier-bodied and slower-moving.

Ok, I wasn't planning on feeding any more frequently than once a week. I had read in a book to feed every 4 days and that seemed like a lot so I was just curious what other people were doing. I was planning on feeding him once a week for the first year but wasn't sure how often to feed after that. Thanks for the advice!

What she said. I feed my juvenile once a week and he's growing nicely. I'll put him on a ten day schedule at a year old, but I tend to feed smaller meals than most. I've never pushed the limits with the size of food.

What everyone else says every 7 to 10 days, plus I never feed while they're in shed but that's just my personal choice and don't feed him mice. Get him on the appropriate sized rats as soon as you get him some burms can be a bit of a nightmare to switch over and other will eat anything. Daisy our normal female will eat anything but lambs, while Wilson our albino male will only eat rats :mad:

How do you even get the food for these! When they get big they start eating rabbits! even if you breed you'll end up with 60 rabbits in a week.

Most people buy ready killed frozen rabbits then just defrost them and feed their snakes when they want ;)

Only hatchling pythons and colubrids should be fed every 3 to 4 days. Up until about 2 months old is the way to get them well started. From there every 5 to 7 days is appropriate. Even a 10 day schedule would be better and you will probably see more roaming of the reptile at that point.
