Can somebody please help me identify the snake the White Ibis has in its beak? Thanks, ADubin

Most likely a Water Snake (Nerodia sp.), but there are a few other snakes that could appear banded from that angle. Impossible to get a positive ID without a much higher resolution photo. Could you upload the photo to another site, such as photobucket, and link it? An exact location, such as the county it was found in, would be helpful as well.

I'll second everything FW said. If we can zoom in on the picture and get an exact location we may be able to help more.

Not to sound rude but what does it matter what it is...or was in that case

I'm just very curious what type of snake it is. ADubin

Yeah, it appears to be a Southern Water Snake (Nerodia fasciata). I'm going to stop at the species level, without a location I can't be more specific. Pretty cool picture, natural acts of predation are always interesting. Thanks for sharing.
