Yep, growing like weeds in a garden, lol. Looking great, seeing the pics of yours makes me think my jungle/cross isn't too fat after all. He/she is bulkier than the Domincan boas and everglades rat, but not as much as the red tails.

Shredder looks incredible! Can't imagine why you named him that, was he a living chainsaw when he was younger? ;)

Chomper looks good too, lots of yellow for a coastal :D

Thanks Sam. Shredder's a little over 6 months and coming along well. Part of selling the idea of getting new snakes to the family was I'd let my 6 y/o son name them. Shredder is named after the villain on the cartoon show Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. His nemesis is a rat named Splinter. He's the good guy and leader of the turtles. Same with Chomper. He's the T-Rex in The Land Before. I would have named them Lovelace after the penguin guru in Happy Feet and Moto-Moto after the playboy hippo in Madascar. I keep asking him if I can change their names but he says NO WAY DAD! :D

Classic haha, I must say your boy has great taste in names. What better way to scare the bejesus out of house guests than to say "Here are my pythons Shredder and Chomper, who wants to be first?" Hahah

I must say I like Moto-Moto, gotta play that tune from Madagascar on loop in his tank, I'm sure he'll grow into a voracious breeder. ;)

"I like 'em big, I like 'em chunky"
"I like 'em big, I like 'em plumpy"

I'm sure Lovelace would follow suit ;)

Last night was feeding time. It was dark and the pics aren't the best but I figured I'd share anyway. These guys are growing well. Shredder, the JCP, is up to 268g. He ate a 40g asf. That was his first asf. So far both of the carpets have eaten any prey item I've offered. Chomper, the Coastal, is 605g. He ate a 53g small rat and a 41g chick.

I must have missed this post. Awesome looking carpets Ziggy! I couldn't help smiling at yalls naming process, now I've got the Moto moto song stuck in my head!

EL Ziggy
02-27-16, 08:04 PM
@ Herpo- I was originally drawn to the high contrast black and yellow jungle carpets but I have to admit I'm more attracted to coastals these days.

@ Humble- The snake naming process is definitely an adventure. I still can't believe I'm getting bullied by a 6 y/o. He got me again today. He had a good week at school and aced his belt test at karate today. I figured a trip to the toy store was in order and gave him a $25 budget. Well, $63 later, I'm still trying to figure out how that happened. Anyway, I'm getting a new Bredli carpet in a couple of weeks and I'm naming him all by myself! I'm torn between Slayer, Stryker, and Gabriel.

Humble308
02-27-16, 08:58 PM
Hahaha, yea it happens like that sometimes. I really like the name Stryker, though in some circles of mythology Stryker is another name for Apollo so it might be redundant to your snow bull. With all this carpet talk lately I can't wait to see your Bredli!

That's some amazing visible iridescence on shredder ! The contrasting coloration in chomper is very alluring EL. You are doing an unbelievably great job raising these guys. As far as the naming, I think your son is right on point and should be applauded for his choices and his accomplishments. Keep up the fantastic job. Lol.

Looking good (even better w/flash, lol). Carpets of any variety are just great snakes all around. He looks well fed, how's his disposition?

EL Ziggy
04-15-16, 07:43 AM
@ TnB- He is pretty well fed :). He eats a rat fuzzy every 5-6 days. As far as disposition he's the only one of my carpets to ever strike at me. I was surprised because I had been told that Bredls are one of the more calm carpets. He only did it twice and has been a total angel since.

Shredder is a normal jungle. We should see his true colors when he's about 2. The camera tends to mute out their yellows a bit. Carpets are very fun to keep. My last 4 critters have all been carpets of different sorts. I highly recommend them. :)

S'ven is up to 188g. He had a regurge issue about 10 days ago but he shed yesterday and I'm pretty sure he's ok now. I'll give him another week and try him with a small meal. The regurge was totally my fault. I had fed him the night prior and even though something told me to take out his flower pot hide I didn't. Well he got stuck and I didn't know until the following morning. The only way to get him out was to take a hammer to the clay pot. I did break it and got him free but he tossed his cookies a few minutes later. I know it stressed him out and I wasn't too surprised that he puked. Like I said that was 10 days ago, and he's probably ready to take a meal now, but I'm gonna give it another week just to be sure.

What kind of scale do you have? Been thinking of getting one lately.

EL Ziggy
06-20-16, 03:18 PM
Zelg- I use a normal kitchen scale but I'm going to need something different. It's not the scale per se but getting the animals into a container that's large enough to weigh them.

https://www.amazon.com/Kitchen-Splaks-Professional-Stainless-Platform/dp/B01DDQ5156/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1466457210&sr=8-16&keywords=food+scale

I have a scale I got on e-bay years ago, actually goes up to 75 lbs. Similar to this one: Digital Postal Scale Mail Postage Scales Letter Package 0 2 oz to 75 lbs Digital | eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Digital-Postal-Scale-Mail-Postage-Scales-Letter-Package-0-2-Oz-to-75-lbs-Digital-/231634462847?hash=item35ee7d687f:g:QiAAAOSwDNdVtgS c) If I need to weigh a larger package I put something on top of the scale to raise the box high enough to see the screen, then hit the tare button. You could easily weigh just about any size snake using a plastic tub that way.

You would think so G. Seems like most of the love here in the States goes to jungles. Jags are pretty popular too but I don't keep them. They're the most gorgeous of the carpets but the neuro issues deter me. I like the tigers as well but again you don't see that many of them.
