View Full Version : New Acquisitions Thread

Every self-respecting motorcycle forum has a "new purchase thread," and I never understood why most reptile forums don't, seeing how any new acquisition is always an über-exciting event.
Now, it wouldn't make sense to start this type of thread without a new acquisition, so I quickly ran out and made a random purchase. ;) Ok, maybe it wasn't entirely random or quick, but it is valid all the same...
This is a proven male Surinamese Boa constrictor (you can never have too many ;)), Pokigron locality, produced by Gus Rentfro. I'm having to borrow the seller's (kinda crappy) pic for this celebratory post, since he is not being shipped until next week, but I'm sure I'll be able to capture him in proper lighting in his full glory once he gets here.
Your turn.
PS: Moderators, please move this thread into the proper forum. Apparently I was too excited to pick the right one...
i'm excited to see this thread blossom as i love when someone gets a new scaly friend on here :)

Well I won't be posting any pictures of new arrivals for some time but I have finally worn the wife down enough to agree that when we move house and I have my own office, den, man cave, I can get a couple more snakes!
And as always nightflight a beautiful snake. Don't you just love BCC's / BCC's?!

I think it's mainly because members tend to dedicate a whole topic to one new acquisition. :D That Suriname boa constrictor is gorgeous!

Yup, pretty much this. For me, anyways.
But for the spirit of this thread, and because I didn't want to start my own threads with the breeder's photos I'll share them here instead. :D
I'm expecting two new BRBs, but I'm not expecting them until March at least. Whenever the weather stabilizes and warms up. It can go from nearly 70F to 20F at night, not good shipping weather, and I already saw someone lose a boa in the mail up in WV I think it was. It arrived dead from a sudden cold snap.
This is the female hypo BRB.

And this is the male Picasso stripe, he's a sibling from the Picasso girl I lost a few months ago.

These days, I rarely get new snakes unless I produce them here but, this male Jungle was an exception.

He's in shed too. Haha. I post better pictures when he sheds.

I can see why you made the exception, wow!

Woohoo - success!!! Mrs Danny has caved in (or lost the will to live!).
Deposit paid on this stunning Eyed Lizard (TIMON LEPIDUS) and should have him at home by the end of the month.
Managed to get a cracking secondhand viv for £40 with pretty much everything I need. Will upgrade the stat in a couple of months but just about good to go.
Store photo for now...

The photo hardly does him justice. Really striking iridescent blues on the 'eyes'. He's only a wee thing as well atm but should colour up more and more as he gets older.
The store reckons he'll be a big boy as well - bearded dragon size when full grown.
Can't wait to get him home...

Wow! Congrats! I really think it's what I know as a jewled lacerta or something like that lol. I saw some at a pet store once and fell in love. Maybe one day I'll have one, but for now the plan is to gwt a trio of crock skinks and a pair of abronia. So...loooots of saving up to do. XD
Looking forward to pics when you get the new guy!

Oh you'll get them! The guy at the shop said he was one of the nicest he'd seen in a while. Wasn't planning on getting one until the end of March but he would have sold by then and he's just such a nice specimen I couldn't pass.
Also means Mrs Danny (who is very kindly buying him for me as my 40th present) can't change her mind!!
It was close though as they have two just glorious Sonoron Boas in at the moment but the boa I have now and a lizard like this make a fantastic pair of reptiles for now.
@mink-I think you're right, I've seen them called jewelled lacertas also. Should turn in to a stunner. Not really thought about keeping lizards until now but this guy just called out to me. I'm pretty sure you know the feeling!!

I have a pair of trinket rats coming next week. Though they are pretty common, I've wanted a pair for a long time and noticed a yearling pair for sale so grabbed em up.

@Danny- I actually started with lizards allllll the way back when I was super little and ran around catching Anoles all day in Florida lol. I really love just about all reptiles and amphibians actually. So I am really looking forward to my next legged additions! I will have a healthy mix once my ideal collection is complete. Ither than snakes and lizards, I'd also like some tree ftogs (red eyed and the whites or dumpy types) and news (irian and green marbled).
You should totally use me as a bad example of what you COULD be like! LOL

Thanks Mink - I may just do that.
My stock response when I get 'that look' in relation to one of my many and varied hobbies is 'I could always go out and buy a motorbike...'.
Usually works as a motorbike is most definitely on the list of things I will truly never be allowed!

1.0 CB15 Eunectes murinus. Picked him up yesterday. Keeping Eunectes has always been fun, and I'm glad that I was able to add this handsome fella to my collection. I'll post another picture after he gets a fresh set of tires.
