Introducing my new male IJ carpet male. Pretty simple story here. Got him from Craigslist because his last owner decided to breed a different direction than IJs. Got him for a steal and he's completely healthy according to the general exam he got by 'snake experts' (no, not a vet).

He's smaller than expected yet longer than expected...lol. also, kind of squirmy and doesn't seem to like being handled much. Might just be stressed from the day.

Currently in a large tub but will get a better enclosure in a few months.

Here's some pics of him. 1st pic is one from the old owner and the rest were from tonight.

Very nice IJ Mink. Your tub looks pretty deep. Are you going to add perches?

Ziggy, yes, I will add some stuff as I can. The tjing he is on is actually on its side and comes about halfway up the tub. If I stand it upright, it will poke out the top lol. It acts as a hide too though. I will probably mist him before bed as well.

I will say this. He is polar oppiset of Persephone. She sees me aproach her tank and she is all into me, and if I open the tank, she is NOT shy one bit about coming out to say hello. And once out she's pretty chill.

This guy jerks away when I open his tub and flails to get away from me.

He may also need to be fed more. The previous owner was feeding a small rat every 2 weeks. I will probably feed him weekly, but my usual place is all out of small rats so his first feeding will be this coming saturday when I feed everyone else.

I have noticed that feeding more often seems to calm them down. Even my angry death worms have calmed down with some extra feedings and handling. Hopefully it will work for him as well. =)

Name ideas are welcome as well!!! Thinking of naming him Hades since my little girl is Persephone.

Thanks! Yeah, it was getting bad, but I'm glad I held out as long as I did or wouldn't have had the space for him. Pretty much done until after I get Treasure. (Or so I would like to believe lol)

Cracker*noun*(GOOD THING)

›*[S]*UK*informal*a person*or thing that is very good or has a special*exciting*quality:She's written five books, and every one is a cracker.

In US/SA its a bad slang word in UK it's not :)

Thanks for the explication Tsu!

Also, decided to try and feed him as he has been antsy and nervous since yesterday, flinching every time I open his bin (and I am bad and open it alot...oops!)

I also feel he's a bit on the thin side, so figured it couldn't hurt since his previous owner had him on a biweekly feeding schedule.

He slammed down a medium rat and as thin as he apears...it barely left a buldge! It did...but just barely!

I also added an actual hide to help give him a warmer hide and put a CHE outside the tub to raise his ambient temos as they weren't getting as warm as I'd like. The hide also allowed an extra hight to the climb I put in there for him so it seems a bit taller than before without poking against the lid.

Here are a few pics from tonight =)

The last pic is to show the hide, which is was actually all insode of when I took the pic.

I haven't been a member of this shire long but I do know that you mink, cannot stop buying snakes!!

That said this is a stunner. I prefer boas to pythons but retics are growing on me as are carpets and I'd have a snake this good looking in a heartbeat.

Lol, nice.

I will one day stop buying smake, just not any day soon. My list is a little lengthy lol. And, it's not limited to just snakes. I want lizards as well. =)

Your guy will probably bulk up quickly now that he's being fed a little more Mink. I don't like pushing the envelope too far but carpets can take much larger prey than one might expect. What are you feeding your smaller IJ these days? I also saw in your previous post that you were misting him. What's the humidity like in your area? I've never misted my carpets.

I only mist when they are about to shed, just to give that little extra bump to assist. I do that for all of my critters.

My little IJ is finishing up the pinkies but will be bumped up to rat fuzzies when I get to the store this friday. She also got mouse hoppers every so often.

New guy took the medium rat without a problem, but I am not sure I should give that to him every week. The previous owner fed him smalls every 2 weeks, so I figured I'd try smalls every week and see how that does him. He's more active than my little girl too. Cruises his tub alot and when I have him out he is super exploitive and squirmy where as my girl explores for about 10 mins, then curls up somewhere warm and chills. This is usually under my shirt, on my shoulder, with her peeking out XD

He also moves REALLY fast. Kind of scared my mom as she saw him trying to get out of my hands to make a break for it when I first brought him home and pulled him out of the pillowcase.

Its amazing the differences between the same language. I remember when I spent a semester out in Pennsylvania at university there.

First frat party I went to I asked a group of guys I had just been introduced to whether anyone wanted a fag. Couldn't work out why all I got was odd looks and silence.

I was teaching at a local elementary school also (Catholic to boot) and was doing a lesson on electricity. Set up a basic experiment to see what would conduct and what wouldn't. I asked if any of the children wanted to test a rubber...
