Northern Michigan herper

Hello, all. My name is Joshua Jones and, as you've probably guessed by now, I'm located in Northern Michigan. I'm addicted to field herping, but I'll photograph anything that strikes my fancy. My primary focus is snakes, but I often find myself photographing turtles, lizards, even a frog or two. I look forward to seeing some of the photos posted here and taking part in some of the discussions. Thanks for the add and happy herping. :D

Welcome to the forum (sorry for such a late welcome).

I can't wait to see some of the animals you've found, I always love seeing animals in their natural habitat. It makes you appreciate nature all that much more.

Good luck finding them critters! Although I'm not sure what your luck would be right now in Michigan of all places ^.^

Boidae, as you guessed, the herps aren't really moving up here right now. Winter is my time to look at photos and dream.lol Our herping season is only about five months long.

Bandit, it looks (Judging by your locations) like you two might have it as good as I used to, herpwise. I grew up in Arizona, where we had more varieties of rattlesnakes than Michigan has snake species combined. I look forward to your 2016 thread. :)

Yeah I'm in Louisiana. This past year I've found herps through the end of December and I've already made two trips this month and found stuff. Typically it's a bit cooler and the herping slows down this time of year, but this winter has been more like spring for some reason or another.

Welcome to the forums! My parents live in Traverse City, and I've visited a lot of Northern Michigan. I remember finding only one snake while I was visiting MI. I don't know what it was - some manner of colubrid - and I was in high school so I wouldn't be able to describe it now.

But I did take it into the high school girl's cabin I was staying in at Interlochen Arts camp and I was entertained how quickly I got the cabin to empty :) lol
