This is one of my favorite boas--a female Bolivian Boa constrictor "amarali," Barry Miller lineage, with a ridiculous amount of pink that is difficult to capture in a photograph. What a heart breaker! :)

Gorgeous! How do you expect her to turn out as an adult?

Now there's something I'd go out of my way for to get! Haven't seen any for sale here in years though. Gorgeous

I'm hopeful that she is going to retain much of that into adulthood. Fingers, paws and spurs crossed! :)

Out of interest nightflight what do you use for backgrounds when photographing your snakes?
I am a keen photographer but more landscapes etc but I'd love to capture some great shots of my boa and t lepidus.

It depends. I really prefer to take pictures outdoors, but the climate isn't always ideal for that, so often times I have to settle for indoor photography. If I do an actual photo shoot where I can take my time, I use a light box (i.e., a box made out of white material with controlled, diffused lighting) to photograph specimens. If I don't have much time, then I'll often just use a white plastic sheet or a lid or whatever else I have laying around that can act as a background. I try to avoid taking pictures of the animals inside of the enclosure, because the lighting there is usually crappy and will mess up the photos.
Anytime I have all options available, I try to do it outdoors just after sunrise, as the lighting is usually best at that time.

Yep, get the lighting totally. In my view a good photograph is 70-80% lighting and the rest composition.
I will have a play - I have a small softbox and some lights that I can dig out. Do you avoid flash on purpose as I have a wireless flash set up that I could position for best effect (even in the viv if needed)?
Edit: and what lens do you use plus focal length etc.

Amazing looking reptile! I thought it was more of a erythrystic coloration. But pink, that's cool too. What is her attitude like? She looks like she don't take no mess. But I know looks can be decieving.

Agreed. The key to a good photo is in the lighting.

It depends. If you can get the light box set up perfectly, then you won't need a flash. That said, I usually prefer to use a diffused flash for effect. When done right, it creates a nice illuminating effect without bleaching out the whites.
My go-to lens for reptiles is a Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L. If the lighting is properly set up, you can use a fast shutter speed and get a good depth of focus with f11-16.

Like most boas, she is a total buttercup. Out of all of the boas in my collection, there is only one specimens that requires a cautious approach, all the others are fairly mellow with the proper approach.

Thanks NF. I have the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 which is a lovely lens together with the standard 100mm EF macro so will have a play possibly tomorrow but more likely Friday as my little boy will be in nursery then so much easier to fiddle with stuff like this!!

And yet another member of my Bolivian boa group. This is a CB13 female, also Barry Miller lineage. She should be ready to go next year.
Everybody always flocks to the Surinamese boas, but I cannot get enough of these Bolivian silverbacks!

Stunningly beautify snakes NF but I cannot see for the life of me why they are called silver backs ;)
Your whole boa collection is to die for.
I cannot recall, do you have any Peruvian Bc's?

Thank you, Danny! I do have a single male Peruvian boa, but I don't really have a good picture of him yet. Working on it...

Haha Poor little guy. I really love the hissing photos. I've been waiting for a hissy snake to come my way, but alas, 8 snakes in and no hissers. I don't think I've ever been hissed at, the most I get are some half-hearted huffs. :( Not sure how the next two will be.
