View Full Version : Who called it?

I know there was a thread running around here where people were placing bets on when I cracked an got another snake. Of course I had a promise to mom that I didn't want to break, but have been feeling that insatiable itch for a new addition. I found a bit of a loop hole to this though. =)
I will be making payments on this lovely 2014 Poss Super Hypo Junge Male. The Sire is a Super Hypo Salmon Jungle and the Dam is a Poss Super Salmontine. Who is said to be perfect in every way and super tame and easy to handle!*
He's currently about 3.5 feet and according to the breeder shouldn't get past 5.5.
I wont have him until late March or early April dye to the payments and weather.
I am currently calling him 'Treasure' for 3 reasons. The Xs down his back reminds me of how in a treasure map X marks the spot. The rectangles on his tail remind me of treasure chests. And last but not least...the 1st snake I EVER wanted was a boa all the way back when I was like 10.
I am so greatful to the breeder for allowing me to make extended payments on him!!! He has also just been wonderful to deal with and has answered all of my silly questions and has been one of the beat online animal purchases I've experienced.
These photos are the ones I saw in the ad on fauna, but he said he would get me more pics after the holidays.
On a completely different note, the deciding factor for this specific boa, was just how CLEAN he is! Freckles are cute sometimes, but I really appreciate next to no freckles. He may develop more as he ages, but at 2 and still that clean....he makes me squee! Lol

He's amazing Mink! Shame I can't have boas as they are too big :( One of the best looking snakes imo.

Yeah, that's what kept me from getting one as my 1st is because mom said the snake had to stay small.buuuy...8 snakes later, she is ok with larger so long as she sees it smaller first. By the time I get him, Moko will be bigger than him I think lol. And, at 5.5 feet 'max' (he could stay smaller), he will stay n the smaller side of things anyway! =)

I wouldn't count on him staying under 5.5', even with small parents, but man that's a gorgeous snake!
He's already rather large for a 2014 baby, but depends on when he was born. If he was born January-March 3.5' seems reasonable.

The Dad of my boa from Nagy is close to 5.5' so it's entirely possible he could.

Male BCI average 5 - 6 feet. Could be bigger or could be smaller. It's an average.
Pet peeve of mine is when breeders say "MAX length" at a certain size when it's impossible to say for sure. Also on the account snakes grow for their entire life. At a point it just slows immensely but they still grow.
Anyway, neat looking snake Logan.

Thanks for the info Aaron! And that does make sense on the 'max' size. I doubt I'd notice a few extra inches anyway. =)

Wow, Mink, he's gorgeous! So clean! The boas I've seen in my price range always tend to be super freckled. Treasure is definitely a suitable name :)

It could, I just wouldn't count on it. My male is over 6', so he's broken the "average male size." I use quotations here because males often break the average 5'-6'. It also depends on age, boas attain the bigger sizes very late in life, which can make it misleading as to how big they may get. I've heard they can take anywhere from 4-6 years old to 6-9 years old, and they can grow noticeably throughout this period, or all of a sudden one year put on 2'-3' of growth.

I'm sure that locality plays a part as well as if its BCC or BCI. Not sure what he is, but don't really care much either. I will hardly be able to tell the difference if he's 6 foot in 8 years.
My 1st project when I get the house is to build a custom enclosure that's 6 feet long anyway. So he will have plenty of room to grow. =)

Yeah, for sure! My first BCI grew rather fast (I was unknowingly feeding him more than I should have), and once he hit 5.5' I had a bit of problems moving him around, but after a few months I can now move him with one hand like he was a pile of leaves. haha I'm sure a nice, properly slow-grown boa won't catch you by surprise like that. :)
Good plan! It's always good to provide snakes more than the minimum, within reason of your abilities of course.
