The desert horned vipers (Cerastes cerastes) from Egypt are just about ready to enter brumation, so here are a few pics before they go to bed.

The top right is a male, the other two are my females.

Beautiful snakes, they're a snake I'd love to have someday!

They're fantastic snakes to keep, and do well in a nicely set-up desert habitat. They thermoregulate by burrowing into the substrate (with only to anterior portion of the head protruding), and will also use that position to ambush prey. They also practically never drink from a water bowl, and obtain essentially all of their fluids from the prey.

Those are sooo cool. I have watched feeding videos of them and its quite entertaining to watch. I especially like how they wiggle themselves back into the sand after theyre done.

What temps do you brumate at & do you feel that it is absolutely necessary for copulation?
