View Full Version : A tortoise for me???
I didn't know which forum to post this in, so I'm posting it here.......
OK.......... Ive always wanted a little pet tortoise, I think they are so cute! And for the past few months my brain has really been hinting at me to get one (I keep dreaming about them). My problem is that I have such limited space, I really cant afford to dedicate a 6 foot enclosure to a "pet" when I *need* that space for my snakes. I'm a total newbie to these creatures so any help would be appreciated. These are some guidelines:
*stays fairly small
*hardy
*relatively easy to care for
Does anyone have any suggestions???
Go for the Spur Thight Tortoise! (JK)
Honestly .. Loapard tortoises (expensive) are fairly easy to care for and don't get too large .. a bit bigger could be the red or yellow foots ..
Hmm .. greeks arn't that huge either but all the ones I have named except the loepards will need thath 6 x2 or 4 space requirement .. lemme check and ill get back to you for even smaller ones...
Let me know what you think and what u had in mind?
Dom
I don't really have any in mind, as I said, I am a total tortoise newbie, and I don't know whats really available besides a few. I like the leopards and redfoot torties but unfortunately they get too big as well. All I am looking for is a *small* and easy to care for tortie. I was considering a pancake tortoise but the flat shell doesnt do it for me, half the reason I think torties are so cute is the boxy shell :)

Torts are cute! I can already picture you with one Linds... You'll be all happy and hyper! Let me know what you decide on!
Lindsay;
May I point out here that if you keep going the way you rae, you will very soon be living in a cardboard box in the back yard, while your herps sit happy (and cramped) in your house!!:D :D
lol
Didn't your mother ever explain moderation to you .. lol.
I know .. this IS moderation!!o>

try eastern box turtles.. they aren't that hard to hard to get.. the price for them is like 100-200.. they stay fairly small.. i think they stay under 15 inches.. these turtles or like tortioses.. they are terestorial(sp??)

i could be wrong but i believe egiption(spelling?)torts stay small.
Jason, yup Egyptian torties stay very small indeed. They would be perfect for me except that they are Appendix 1 animals which would make it pretty impossible for me to get :(
Quervo, moderation? huh? what? LOL... yeah my mother's tried constantly teach me what that was my whole life. Would you say it was a success? :hammer:
snake_dude03, how similiar is this to a tortoise? Reason I ask is I don't like turtles at all...lol :p
