View Full Version : Take him or leave him?

So, with Thanksgiving approaching, I will be returning home to my parent's house to see my family while I don't have any classes. I've left my snake (1-ish year old spotted Python) alone for as many as 2 days before, but for the break I would be gone from Wednesday to Sunday. I was wondering if it would be better to take the snake and his enclosure with me, or leave him alone. I wouldn't hesitate to take him usually, but he's going into shed now so that concerns me a bit. 4 days seems a bit long to leave him alone though, just in case he needs anything. Opinions?

Personally, I'd leave him. Give him a big water bowl and fresh water before you leave, secure the lid, mist him (because of the shed) and go on your way.
If you have a friend that can check on him, that is always helpful. But if not, then no worries.

I'm with Minkness on this one. If you are comfortable that nobody will bother him, then make sure that his cage is secure, give him plenty of water and enjoy your holiday. I think that taking him with you would stress him out much more than leaving him alone for that length of time.
I would say leave him. So long as he still has heat and water he will be fine. The move ay stress him out more than anything else.
Whenever I go out of town I leave my snakes (up to a full week). I just give them all plenty of water and have never had any problems.

I agree, I would leave him bc it's just the prudent thing to do considering the time frame. I would super clean the enclosure b4 leaving, fresh water and temps and humidity all double checked. Then upon returning, first thing to do is clean up any waste, feces, urates and substrate.
I never sweat leaving my snakes for 7-10 days. As said above clean the cage, leave a large water bowl with fresh water(might leave two bowls in case one gets tipped or pooped in), and don't feed prior to leaving in hopes that it's bowels will be empty while your gone.

Thanks for the advice guys. I returned back to my apartment today to find a nice, complete shed and thankfully a relatively clean cage, although some cleaning was required of course.
