I finally finished the first 4x2x2 eclosure and moved a restless 6' female Dominican boa from a 33 long into the larger space. Should have several 80w RHP's arriving tomorrow. She's currently set up with a heat mat under a large ceramic tile with the t-stat on that set to 89. I want to use a RHP on the top corner of the other side of the enclosure for ambient heat. Where should I place the t-stat probe for the RHP? The probe for the heat mat is actualy under the tile with the mat, the IR temp gun shows 90 as the max temp of the tile surface, with a hide on the warm area. On the other end of the enclosure there's another ceramic tile, elevated about 10" off the floor, with another hide on top of that tile.

In my 48x24x16 pvc cage I have my uth and rhp on the same side. The uth probe is buried in the substrate and the rhp probe is on the surface directly under the rhp near the edge. I find this gives me the right hot side temps and a gradient to the cold side while maintain ambient.

I do my RHP cages different than most people. I actually have the RHP on a rheostat and the probe on the cool side. The probe will shut off if the cool side gets too warm. This system has worked pretty well for me.
