I've been keeping my young coastal and jungle carpets at a constant ambient temp of about 82F. I have a thermostat regulated uth that creates a hot spot of 88-90 and I use a low wattage IR heat bulb, on a dimmer, to boost my ambient temps. I was wondering how many of you allow night time temp drops for your carpets. If I shut off the heat lamps at night the ambient temps would drop to the low-mid 70's. Any thoughts?

I don't turn off the CHE on the smaller carpet's enclosure at night, but it doesn't heat the entire enclosure, just directly under it. Temps are typically in the 80's where she spends most of her time by day, though she may be absorbing a bit more than the ambient heat.
I didn't use a CHE on the 40 breeder I moved the yearling into, and he/she spends more time lounging on a branch in the open with the ambient temp of 72 all day long (when not actively digesting a meal) and tends to roam the tank at night from what I've seen. I expected the cave/s over the heat mat to be used more, though I have seen him/her hanging around with part of the tail in the warm cave. I figure the snake has the option for warmth if wanted, but seems to be comfortable enough at lower temps.

With our hatchies, or juveniles, we offer 24 hour heat via a heat cord. Once upgraded to larger "premises", they get no night time heat at all.
70's would be fine for you little ones.
