Hello. =)
I'm new to this forum, but not new to reptiles. I've had reptiles for over 10 years now. I've had a yellow anaconda for over 5 years.
I am seeking some advice, though. I am an undergraduate biology student with hopes to go to graduate school out of state (probably 2-3 years down the road still). When I bought my yellow anaconda 5 years ago, I did not count on it becoming illegal to take these snakes across state lines. I love my snake and would really like to take her with me, but I also recognize that this might not be a possibility. Does anyone on here know more about this than I do? I somehow find it difficult to find clear information on this. So I am looking for some help there. Then, I would like to develop a plan in case I cannot take my snake with me when it comes to graduate school. I would have to re-home her somewhere within my state. Does anyone have any resources or ideas on how I could go about finding her a GOOD home? I refuse to give my snake up to a less quality home than she has with me.
Keep in mind this is all 2-3 years down the road, so I have plenty of time. I am hoping that the ban will be lifted by this time and I can just take her with me. But I want to make sure she can be safe and well cared for if it comes down to it.
Secondly, in the 5 years of owning this snake I have not been able to get her to tolerate handling. I am well aware that many people believe that yellows are often just nasty-tempered, but I've also had those who tell me it's possible. I'm able to handle her just fine using snake hooks and could do this for her entire life, but it would be kind of neat if I didn't have to mess with snake hooks all the time when I need to clean her enclosure or feed her. Might also make her safer to re-home if I end up having no other choice. Does anyways have any wisdom on habituating these snakes to handling?
Thanks for your time. =)
