View Full Version : Is it normal for a brongesmai to be backbiting?

Hello everybody!

I have a nice brongesmai. .. since she was a small baby, until now she has been a little backbiting. when I take her, she is always in "S" position, waiting for anybody to be close... Is there somethig that can be done in order to make her a little more docile?

the enclosure is a wooden cage with glass door at the front, she lives in the guest room, which actually is my snake room.. (so, no guest allowed... haha!)

when I take this picture, she was striking all the time to the camera guy... ! oh! actually she is the double size as in the picture which is not very recent..

Well, I will appreciate if some of you can share your experience and give me a hand..

Not sure what you mean with the term 'backbiting', just sounds like your brongersmai is defensive which is perfectly normal. Not every snake is the same, some are more defensive than others. She may grow out of it and get used to handling, she might not.

I have the same issue with mine and from the looks of yours is much calmer as theres no way I can hold mine with my hands. hes constantly striking and cant be held by hand I only deal with him with a hook.

Exactly, very defensive and striking also... and a little nervous I would say.

woow.... do you know what I think about...? what we will do with a 7 feet hugh snake, with an attitude...

I will work on handling her more frequently... and let´s see what happen.

Thats what I was expecting when I got him lol. The best way I've heard it put is that bloods are for snake lovers not reptile lovers.

I've had some that are absolutely hell on wheels and never calmed down, and I have had some that were some of the calmest snakes of any available species around. Do your best to work with them while they are young and MOST of the time, they will calm down. Bloods can definitely bite straight backwards from their position by looping straight up and back, and they're very talented in doing so. I think that's what you mean?
