Just a little update on my rescued female BP Amara. It's been a few months now and she is probably my favorite snake out of my collection. She is active, curious, and never jumps in fear or hisses. She's a great 'cuddle' snake too if I just wanna chill on the couch! Perfect eater and every shed has been flawless since I got her!

For people not familiar with her story I got her as a suposed 8-9 month old who only weighed 70 grams. She had a TERRIBLE mite infestation and stuck shed on her face along with about 4 or 5 retained eye caps. Needless to say, she is doing MUCH better now at a whopping 255 grams!

Pics are before and after. Middle picture was when I was cleaning one day and gad her and a paper towel roll on my bed....she figured she would try to stun me with adorableness! Lol

(P.s. I know snakes don't really cuddle)

Nice looking snake. I don't know how they manage to be so cute sometimes...

Great job! She's looking really healthy and well cared for. And balls are just the most cute-faced snakes ever imo <3 Shame that I'm still afraid of feeding live... maybe someday I will overcome this and will be able to get myself a nice, plump noodle.

Sylphie, ballpythons shoulndt eat live either. You could always go for an already well established eater :)

Tsubaki, yeah I know that, but I talked to a lot of ball owners and the general opinions were that if you can't live feed then the balls are not for you. Even the best estabilished f/t eaters can just decide they no longer want it and then it would be a problem. And I don't want to take a snake and then won't be able to take care of it properly. :) I'm still thinking that maybe someday feeding live won't bother me so much anymore and then I'll try to get a ball.

And Mink, sorry for a little off-top! It's really amazing how much Amara changed under your care <3

I have never had a ball python all of a sudden stop eating frozen/thawed. I've got ball pythons that have been eating this way for over a decade.

Good! My plan worked! lol

Find a nice, established one on frozen/thawed and you should be fine.

I agree with Aaron Sylphie. I stayed away from BPs forever because I was afraid of their feeding needs as well. However, an established F/T feeder will usially stick with it. The trick if they decide not to, is to super heat the rat and jiggle it around with tongs. The heat mixed with the motion usually cures difficult feeders. My male, Moko, didn't eat for nearly 2 months after I got him. He stresses very easily. However, I have not fed him live because he wouldn't eat....I just waited him out patiently and tried a few different things. He is NOT one that will take a rat just left in his cage though. Nope, he needs those things 'active' lol. But not live. =)

Come to the cute side....get a BP!

(And they stay small enough it shouldn't hurt your back!)

Thanks! ^_^

I love that her headfat is soft now. When I first got her, it was pretty hard and not 'plump' like it should be x.x

So happy I have her....
