Hey guys/gals
I find myself getting sucked deeper into herpetology. I've found plain old American Toads to be super cool to keep. I became interested in keeping them after I got a hog nose snake and would like to breed some feeders.
I haven't been able to find much info on captively breeding these guys or I should say the research I've done answers some but not all of my questions.
From my understanding these toads breed once a year in the spring, however I've read of rain chambers for frogs and I'm wondering if it's possible to see toads also mate out of "season". If so, has there been any data compiled on the subject? I'm not looking for trade secrets but simply to treat my toads as well as possible through this adventure.
For the time being I've acquired 3 toads, all female I believe. I'm looking for a sexually mature male, but with the cold snap all our local toads have burrowed down. If anyone has one they'd part with I'd be happy to pay a reasonable price for one. I'd like to stay with about 4 toads total for this particular enclosure size of 40 gallons
Any information, words of wisdom or questions yall have would be greatly appreciated.

Derek G
