So we adopted our new girl on Friday! She's quite the hisser, but is more interested in hiding than being aggressive. The only times I've handled her is to try and treat her raw spots, BUT!... Remember I said the guy said he was 100% certain there weren't any mites causing this when I asked? Yeah, bull. I saw them crawling on her, and watched one crawl into her pits. Poor girl! She's itching like crazy! So we sprayed her down and soaked her after a while, and into her clean enclosure she went! Going to upgrade to a T60 from Animal Plastics for her.

I wanted to get her stuff on iHerp first, but it seems like their systems are running a little wonky right now. :( You can find her under Phaedra, though, but nothing's been added since I keep getting errors.

Poor thing. Sounds like she's lucky you found her.

And I'm happy I found her! She may be super hissy, but I'm soooooo in love with her! Now I see why Brian with Snakebytes loves Sunshine so much, they're just so awesome~ Makes me sad about the Lacey Act. Gave her a nice soak, she seemed very grateful for it. Instantly calmed down and just got comfy.

I suspect her disposition may improve along with her general condition and health. Poor girl looks rough, that can't feel good.

Uhh, good luck with her! She's a beauty!

And my female russian rat was the same, she arrived to us with mites too and was super hissy and nervous... and now she really calmed down and is hissing only when she's frustrated with us... which is rather often, haha!

Thanks! :) That's what I was thinking, that she's just sore and not feeling all that well, so she's a little grouchy. I would be, too!

Edit: I also forgot to mention, I told the guy I adopted her from, and somehow the story has now changed to 'he's been treating for mites for a while'... hmmm... Not really appreciating being lied to, but at least she's going to get help. I asked him what all he was doing and he said he used a 85% - 90% water solution with a bedding spray and wiped her down, once a week... :/ .. I got some Reptile Relief and Provent-a-mite coming in, as our local stores don't carry it.

He also said he thinks she's three years old, but part of me feels like either he's wrong or she's stunted. He's only had her, from what I was told, earlier this year, so she seems to have been passed around and around. :( She just kinda mellowed out in my lap after putting antibiotic(non-pain relief) on her raw spots, so I took a pic with my hand for size reference. My hands are small, so.

Poor baby :( She's lucky that she finally found a home that cares for her!
