Soooo....who bet that ut would be a carpet python in october? Anyone?
Well, if you did, you won bragging rights lol.
I have been struggling with my MBK for months. She's flighty, hides ALL the time, musks, pees, and tail rattles. She's just not a good snake for me personally. So, I took her to my favorite local reptile store along with some baby geckos I had been meaning to sell, amd found this beauty.....since the store only offers store credit....I could only trade. Sooooo...needless to say, I'm now a proud keeper of an Irian Jaya Carpet Python!
Technically I'm still only at 8 snakes btw!!! So not sure this counts...lol.
Currently unnamed, so as usual I am open to suggestions! It's a female and by the looks of her size, young. There was 1 other clutchmate with her that is believed to be a male. She had a much higher contrast with the creamy parts and chocolate parts, and also some pink blushing along her tail. Also, MEGA mellow! Not defensive, evassive, or snappy! Part of why I fell for her honestly.
Also ended up with a new blazing blizard female juvie leopard gecko. Always wanted one and they had her to trade soooo...meh....lol
So, heres my new ladies! (The super snow juvie leopard is oneof my only hold back from my leos this year).

Nice pick ups Logan mate :)
Nice carpet, congrats. Mine is about the same size as yours but still strikes a bit if I move to fast but is calming down pretty fast.
I have a cornsnake that still tail rattles, musks and strikes at me and he is a year old, I swear he hates people.

Yeah, I couldn't handle the smells any more, or the never seeing her. I like snakes that I can see and handle. Even my tank agressive BP is nicer to deal with than that gorgeous little black noodle. I'm kinda sad about it really. She was my 1st snake and truely beautiful.....just couldn't see keeping her =(

Nothing wrong with a good trade Mink. Very nice IJ. I think you'll like the carpet. They're a lot of fun to watch especially when they're climbing. I've only handled mine a couple of times, they're both still a little flighty but very manageable. Congrats on the nice pick up.

Thanks Ziggy. =)
I still feel bad, but I think I'll be happier this way. And perhaps she will too. I know that one of my hoggie rescues was reported to be vicious, musk, pee, poo, strike the glass if anyone came near her tank, but after a week or two with me, the worst she does is a little hiss and only when I first enter her tank. She has yet to musk, pee, or poo or me. And I know she did it to her last owner because I witnessed it. Lol
Perhaps it was a clash of personalities.
Either way, I look forward to seeing my new baby grow. =)
How do you tell if its an IJ or just a jungle?

Good question. I only know bwcause that's how she was labled.

I guess that's what you'll have to run with; to me it looks like a jungle, but we don't get the Irian Jaya's over here, even though it's just across the water.
Both nice looking reptiles by the way.

Good trade, she looks a good bit like our most recent IJ carpet python. Little larger though, and ours is still in the process of becoming an easily handled snake. She has stopped striking and biting everything that moves near her, but isn't calm or comfortable being handled yet.

So far the only thing she struck at was 2 f/t pinkies. =)
I normally don't offer food on their first day, but saturday was feeding day so figured I'd give it a try and she took them! Cruisee her tank a bit afterwards, then curled up in her warm hide and stayed there the rest of the night. I expect not to see her the next few days but that's ok.
I am sooooo happy with her =)
Mikness, nice! Love the snake, don't think I've read anything about those. Are they active during the day or night? Grats on your new pets :)
My youngster is supposed to be an ij x jungle cross, he does have some tans on his side but I dont know enough about carpet pythons to really tell. I am having trouble switching him to rat pinks, he's turned down two so far.

Great trade, Mink! Sad to hear the MBK didn't work out for you, but it looks like you scored a great carpet! Her identity will become more obvious as she grows...wouldn't be surprised if she's an IJ cross, as pure IJs seem to be pretty rare, but we'll see. Either way she's beautiful!
Sasha, love yours too! Great yellows for such a young one.

I don't know about the difference between IJs or Jungles. I kinda hope ahe keeps her browns.though if she turns black and yellow that's cool too.
Already she is amazing me though. She ate a mouse pink and a mouse fuzzy last night (same day I got her home) so I figured I wouldn't see her at least for a few days....nope...out and climbing all over EVERYTHING lol. Figured it wouldn't hurt to handle her since she was already out and cruising.
I was worried that maybe her calm demeanor was due to stress and now that she's more relaxed and well fed, she may turn psycho snake on me. Nope....put my hand in and she climbed right on! She balled up for just a moment, then untangled heraelf and cruised my bed a bit and then decided to ancor on my wrist and do some arobatics.
Perfect amount of 'hang out with you' and srill active. =)
I do have a question though. Since I fed her so much I expected longer digestive time or at least a lump in her tummy. She was pencil thin though as if she hadn't eaten just yesterday. I scoured her tank to see if she regurged, and nothing there. Are these guys naturally 'lanky' when young? How often should I feed her while still so young? I understand they can be hard to change over, so should I start trying to get ger on rats now? (Pinks).
Kinda torn on a name as well...Aria, Shisa, or Nali?
And just because I can...here's another pic of her! She already looks shinier.....do snakes get dull when stressed?

Also, love how she has a butterfly pattern on her head! So NOT a shy snake lol

She's so cute & pretty! I had to go back and look for the butterfly pattern, that's neat c: I like the name Aria.

I fed my carpets every 5 days when they were little. I think they're a year or so old now and I've scaled back to once a week. But just last Friday I had a snake that decided to skip eating and my carpets still looked hungry after 3 adult mice... down went mouse 4 and as of yesterday there's no bulge and they're looking for food again. I'm making them wait for Friday, though. Assuming that my experience is normal, carpets are just black holes for rodents. Remind me a lot of kingsnakes in the feeding department and cornsnakes in the handling department.

Good to know =)
I am leaning more towards Aria for a name but still unsure. Will get to know her a bit better before settling.

Our adult carpets (not full grown some of them) are smashing large rats every two weeks in the warmer months.
