Hello Everyone,
I was on a golf trip down in Charlotte North Carolina and found this guy on one of the greens. I managed to move him off into the brush with my putter so that he didn't get crushed by other golfers.
I'm just curious if anyone knows the species?
Thank you in advanced,
Justin

That does resemble a eastern hognose. I may stand corrected. Do you have another photo or closeup? Thanks for not grabbing a shovel. Could be a banded water snake.
Looks like some sort of Nerodia. Maybe a banded water snake, but I'm not entirely familiar with the various Nerodia species you have there.
EDIT: I'm thinking it may be a northern water snake.
Midland Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon pleuralis). You are right at the edge of the Northern (N. s. sipedon) and Midland (N. s. pleuralis) intergrade range though so there may be some Northern influence there. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah i had guessed it was one of the various species of water snake. And i would never use a shovel. I keep reptiles my self. Two boas and a chamelon. Thanks again.

I wouldve thought some sort of nerodia looking at the pattern, but looking again at te pattern and the head. I am going to say Eastern Hognose.
