View Full Version : Air vent ideas?
Hey everyone. So I'm in the latter stages of building a cage for my white lipped. Its made out of birch. As it is right now, the doors have a small gap between the wood and the acrylic. I doubt that'd be enough ventilation so I'm torn between simply drilling a series of holes for ventilation or doing cutouts and sticking actual vents in there.
Basically I was wondering if anyone uses specific vents in their custom enclosures and if so, what kinds? Are you happy with them? How many do you use? etc

I went to home depot in the louvre section they had several different options. I went with twelve by four inch vents and made cutouts. I used silicon to attach some screen on the inside to protect the snake. They also had some 2" circular vents that may work better for you if you are concerned about keeping the humidity up.

Cut out vents if done well will look nicer.
Finding 2" circular vents is proving to be difficult. The cons of living in a smaller town I suppose. Thats ok though. The good ol world wide web will get me what I need.

I would stay away from metal as snakes can be pretty persistent and can hurt themselves when trying to find ways out of a cage. You might try these.

Those look great, I'm jusy finishing up building my first enclosure and have 4 more coming along after I work out the bugs on the building process. I'm doing 2'x4'x18" plywood with sliiding glass doors. How many of those 2" vents would be advisable for decent iar circulation? Two on each end near the bottom and 3-4 across the back near the top?

I think that would be adequate for that size cage. Check to see what size hole is needed for the vent you want and then get a hole saw for your drill to make the holes for these. as cutting circular holds can be a pain in the butt. Good luck.

Man those look great. Just what I was thinking about. Nice and cheap too lol.
I was really trying to stay away from metal. Those will be perfect I think. I'm not sure how many I'll need but I figure I can always cover some up if I'm getting too much air flow.
