Hi everyone,
I bet alot of you have a snake in mind that you really want, be it a bloodpython or something like a beauty rat snake.
So i was wondering: what is your dream or future snake, do you want to keep big or small or do you want to make the next step and work with giants or hots?
Personally, my future goal is the Inland taipan, the East or West African gaboon viper, the Eastern green mamba (which i'll get next year) and a Green tree python (that i'll keep in my living room.)
I think it's interesting to see what snakes other people have on their lists!

My current dream snake is a high red Brazilian rainbow boa. I've been stalking like three different BRB breeders on Facebook to see if their high red pairs have any luck, haha. I will have an empty tub for a hatchling soon :D

For me the dream is Atheris Haspida.

For me the dream snakes are unreachable because of my health problems... but my future will be pair of Japanese Rat Snakes (E. climacophora), Four-lined Rat Snake (E.quatuorlineata), some hognoses (H.nasicus, maybe L.madagascariensis), and more corn snakes (P. guttatus)... and maybe anerythistic Russian Rat Snake (E. schrenckii). But it must wait till we build and move to the bigger house :D

Why??? Ive never encountered one that wasnt absolutely evil. Even a staff member at a reptile zoo in Toronto told me theirs is the only snake there that wasnt defensive but flat out agressive! lol

I'd love to keep an Eastern Indigo.

Because mate I think they are absolutely stunning, and I suppose it would be like owning a hot snake just because you can't handle doesn't mean you can't admire and love it for what it is :)

I'm looking to add a high red BRB as well in the next few years. Would love to know what breeders it is you are following, I'm familiar with only one high red breeder.

I'm following Ike (he has a high-red pair), Living Gems reptiles (they have two to three red pairs), Rainbows-R-Us (has some high red snakes), and some other miscellaneous Brazilian Rainbow Boa groups on FB.
I haven't really seen anyone with successful high red pairings this year yet, but maybe a high color pairing will pop out a high red? I may have to wait until next year, heh.

They are big mate I'll not argue that with you, but then who's to say Jenny will always be her charming self in which case we could end up with an 18ft+ snake which is a handful to deal with. It's just one of those things you have to consider before taking one of these big snakes on. I hope you don't think I'm arguing with you RD mate I'm just trying to answer your questions as best I can :)

Thanks for the info! I'm not familiar with Ike, does he have a FB page? Living Gems I know, been secretly stalking those beauties lol, but I'll definitely be looking into Rainbows-R-Us. I'm also watching StarDust Scales, hope to be seeing some nice Ghosts from them, though 3k is hard to swallow for a snake . Maybe the price will come down in a few years? (Hopeful thinking....)

I think every member has made a thread like this lol jk,
But people have different responses every time!
My current wish list, in no particular order:
Cape baja gopher snake*
Calico beauty rat snake
high contrast black & white northern pine snake
Mexican hognose*
Savu python
Woma python
*Not sure whether I can get the cape gopher snake or mexican hognose; Alberta restricts Pituophis cantenifer, so I need to find out whether Alberta F&W is considering the cape gopher to be Pituophis vertebralis or Pituophis cantenifer vertebralis, and I need to ask about mexican hognoses because the western hognose is restricted and looks very similar even though it's a separate species.
I probably won't get anymore snakes until after I graduate, anyway.

Ive met 3 in person and as awesome as they look I have no desire to have to deal with one on any sort of a regular basis. I suppose if you can handle having an arboreal king cobra with a bad attitude (even for a king cobra) then theyre fine.

Definitely Retics, Burms, and Anacondas. Probably not hot snakes, hot snakes and centipedes freak me out.

Ugh:
ETB
Dwarf Retic
Eastern Indigo
Boelen's Python
Yellow tail cribo
and less likely:
some species of rattlesnake.

Thinking about an L. Pyromelana (AZ Moutain King) next. Maybe some species of Ringneck or Lyres as well.
Definitely next in line for me as far as hots is a C. Cerberus (AZ Black Rattlesnake).

Thanks VH! Yeah I'm really big on Crotalus species, they are my favorite and that's lucky for me since I can only keep non protective native venomous legally until the laws change here in AZ (which rumor is that they might to allow non native venomous species).
I'm also really big on Colubrids and always will be. We found one L. Pyromelana this year and I fell in love with em. I've got an L.G. Californiae (Cali King), was actually my first snake, but interacting with him isn't always fun due to his feeding response.

I can imagine you are, i'm considering adding a C. Ruber to my collection because Crotalus are such beautiful snakes!
I dind't know you can only keep native venomous species (non protected) in AZ, but then again states have their on Laws and regulations (and i tend to forget that sometimes since The Netherlands doesn't work with state regulations etc.)
Hope for you that that will change, but until then; there are quite a bunch of nice snakes there!
as for the king, it may be a feeding respone but it keeps you on edge! Always convenient when keeping hots, but i can imagine it can be annoying at times :)

That'll be one of the first non-natives I keep. If the laws change. I love Ruber's, sucks that were not supposed to keep them even though they are only a few hundred miles away in the next state over.

Hope the restriction will be disposed of soon!
That bureaucratic nonsense has to stop ;)
I am aiming for a Brazilian rainbow boa, but if I were to go for a giant, it would be an albino reticulated python. I don't think I'll risk hots unless I'm providing antivenom for somebody though.

I agree, I mean I can understand them and appreciate them when ignorant people are letting Naja's loose in Florida but it still sucks to be restricted.

IMG boas
Longtail boas
Wild type burmese
Cow retic
Goldenchild retic
Tiger retic
Cribos and indigos
False water cobra
Mangrove snake
Fox snake
Coral snake
Baja gopher snakes
Gaboon viper
Angolan python
Sumatran short tailed python
Beauty snakes
