I realized I have never posted pictures of my hoggie or her set up (though I will be getting rid of the habisphere in a few weeks).

So meet Cortana! I took her out today for her first sunlight, she is still small so I worry about putting her down yet. Eating great, active and has only bit once. Though I believe that was an accident as it wasn't a fear strike and she let go easily. She is calm for holding but still flees for being picked up. She gets handled once every other day.

Though I was wondering, does she looks like she is getting fat? She is on a smaller fuzzy every 6 days. I have had her 5 weeks and she still hasn't shed, is that normal? She is showing no signs of going into blue or anything.

From what I know females are rather bulky, so she looks totally okay and normal :D And she's sooo sweet, I can't wait to get my first hoggie... shame they are rather rare here.

Great looking hoggie, and I love the name :D

Can I ask what kind of enclosure that is? Glass?

Oh good, I saw a post mention something that if you can see the skin between scales then they are chubby. Sometimes I can see her skin a bit, but its not all the time. They are pretty common here, at least the convention I went to it seemed like everyone had at least a few. Good luck, they are pretty funny little guys.

The enclosure is made of glass except for the lid which is plastic. Its a complete waste of money for a snake. Its hard to heat, has a small lid, and there is no way to latch the lid. It looks cool but I'm going to be replacing it soon.

She looks perfectly healthy! It's normal to see skin between the scales sometimes when they're moving around; you just shouldn't see it all the time all over the body.

I've seen those enclosures on display in stores. I really like the look of them, but I could never think of an animal that would be suited to them for the reasons you mentioned and because of the dimensions of them.

You can try feeding less often(add an extra day to the feeding cycle). It can be hard to tell when hogs are overweight since they have such a round and chubby appearance to begin with.

There's quite a bit of visible skin between her scales and she does seem to have some pudge just right before her tail starts. I squeezed her gently today and it seems like it's mostly muscle though. I can't really tell lol.
I think I'll feed her a hopper every 5 days? Currently feeding every 3-4 days.

Sorry this is off topic for this thread :/

Every 3-4 days is quite a lot! 5 days sounds much better. You could even do 6 or 7 days. It takes a bit of experimentation to find the ideal feeding cycle for each individual.

@prariepanda good to know! Just thought I would ask as she is my first snake.

@eggplant Your hoggie is just gorgeous though! Love her coloring! I don't know much about feeding. I am currently feeding every 6 days.

Feeding time! She has been worrying me recently, inactive and has only been in one of her hides. Normally she is very active in the mornings. Yet when I took her out to see if she would eat I noticed she is getting ready to shed. Another thing that I had been starting to wonder about since I have had her for two months and no shedding.

She was a bit more reluctant to eat today, running away at first until she was interested after I bumped her nose with it a few times. She still ate which was good. She is being such a great first snake. I'm loving it.

New enclosure! Got rid of that horrid habisphere (though ended up the thermometer was wrong and the temps have been good for her.) Ended up getting a medium low exo-terra terrarium. Loving it. She likes the vertical climbing I added as well. I got the temp exactly where I want it, it looks great and it locks! Overall pretty happy. (Though had to stuff paper towels into the cord holes of the foam BG because she kept getting behind it and getting stuck)

I also added some pictures of her, she has shed and ate today. Though she sure was grumpy, hissed at me a few times and pancaked at me. She very rarely does that, though it has been a little longer than normal since I have fed her because of the move and her new enclosure.

And some more pictures from today

And since we had the habisphere empty, my BF couldn't help and ask what we could put inside of it. And we ended up coming home with this guy
