my first Burmese Python custom cage build

Hello, my name is Lance Cooper
I'm building my first burm enclosure using oak plywood, to seal the seams I was going to use aquarium sealant . now I'm wanting to use wood stain on the out side of the cage and polyurethane on the inside of the cage.

My question is this...is wood stain and polyurethane reptiles safe

As long as they are used on the outsice of the enclosure only where they cannot be scratches and consumed by the animal.

Would it be OK to use polyurethane on the inside...
Do I need to off gas the wood stain...

Just make sure it all dried out completely and all the fumes are gone before putting the snake inside. Never seen a snake scratch or bite walls or anything...

The polyurethane won't off gas when I run my heat lights will it...

I know what you mean the scratching I was refering to is if theres a climbing branch or something like that the snake pushes causing scratches or chips in the finish.

Once the product has cured the vapors will dispurse. As far as brands of finishes go I dont know of one brand thats better than another.

I like to lay a laminate floor down also, it makes for an easy clean up. Then, do a silicone bead along the outside edge to seal it against the walls.

I don't think they have roll out laminate flooring any more all I am ever able to find is self adhere tile and I was told its toxic

A sheet of FRP would cover the bottom nicely. It is the plastic paneling used for bathrooms.

I've used a water-based polyurethane by minwax for gecko enclosures. They lick their water straight off the walls and have had no averse effects.
