Hey all, been a while but anyways I recently picked up a hatching jungle from u underground reptiles when I hit the daytona show 2 weeks ago. I got caught up in the moment and forgot to ask the basic questions. Like for example what is the animal eating. Naturally underground has been feeding their jungles frozen mouse fuzzies. When. I got him the only thing that was available at the time was in fact mouse fuzzies as rat pinks weren't in stock. He gobbled down 2 small fuzzies when I first got him. However since he's been a little ****. Very defensive and he wants nothing to do with the rat pinks. I've tried scenting, but he just defensive bites it, he almost looks more worried about me then the food. I've tried 3 offerings a few days apart at a time. Any ideas to a carpet noon?
Has 2 hides, area to climb, hot spot at 90-95 degrees humidity is around 40% I always see him at night checking out his enclosure.

Congrats on the new jungle Kev. Have you tried braining the prey item? Sometimes you just have to wait them out but it's tough with a hatchling. I just got a yearling coastal and my hatchling jungle should be here next week. My coastal was fed live mice by the breeder but he's taken 2 f/t rat fuzzys without any issues. I've heard and read that jungles can be harder to transition to rats. I've decided to keep mine on mouse fuzzys for a few months and once he's well established, and gets some size on him, I'll move him to rat fuzzys.

Keep scenting the rats with mice, or skinks. We have scented thawed prey with skink poop before with success.
LOL thats exactly what my little guy does. He bites the rat pink a few times like its a monster then ignores it. But throw in a hopper mouse and he gobbles it down.

Didn't even think about braining to be honest zig. I'm almost to the point of dousing the rat pinkie in mouse blood, I know I've seen shauny talk about that idea once. Any length of time to wait until the next feeding? I was thinking a few days.

Give it a week, if it is in good condition. That way you are going to be sure it's hungry.

Thanks pine, he hasn't eaten in about a week currently. I'll wait 5 days and try again.

When my snakes refuse a meal they have to wait until the next scheduled feeding day. I hope your guy gets on track quick. Best wishes and keep us posted.

That's pretty much what we do as well; if it's a new hatchie we might try in a shorter time span, but we still let it wait a bit to increase its appetite.

The last few times he's refused I usually wait about 3 days before offering again or when the next closest feeding for my other 2 was. Hopefully he will come around soon. I need to work on getting the crazy little bugger tamed.

Stop offering so frequently.
