Hey guys, just joined the site. There's been snakes showing up in my yard. And I'm super freaked out by them. Can someone please tell me if they're dangerous/poisonous?

I don't know how to add a photo here. Can you guys see this?

I was going to say ringneck snake, diadophis punctatus. but then i saw that you are from the uk, and looked a little closer at the snake, and i am going to say a baby grass snake, natrix natrix. completely harmless! However i am not 100% sure. someone from your country could tell you for sure.

Were it not for your location having been set to the UK I'd be very confident that this is a Brown Snake (Storeria dekayi), but if this animal was indeed found in the UK then it must be a Grass Snake (Natrix natrix) as Rubbertoes suggests. If you would confirm you location we can be more sure of what you little visitor really is. I'm still thinking it is a Brown, in spite of what you have your location set to. Either way it is absolutely harmless and very cute, thanks for sharing.

Yeah, looking closer it does have a bit of a pattern, so it wouldnt be a ringneck haha. But its too dark to be a brown i think, and they typically dont have the ring. But im 99% sure its a grass snake.

Juvenile Brown Snakes (Storeria dekayi) are often very dark and have a ring around the neck, similar to this animal. They lighten in color overall and the ring fades pretty quickly as they age. Check out the pictures of mother Brown Snakes and their litters on this page: Virginia Herpetological Society (http://www.virginiaherpetologicalsociety.com/reptiles/snakes/northern-brownsnake/northern_brownsnake.php)
