One down, one to go! My 2014 caramel coastal python arrived safe and sound this morning. I was more than impressed. He definitely looks nicer than I expected. Big shout out to Nick Mutton at Inland Reptile. Nick was GREAT to work with and his animals are really top notch. I can't wait to get my jungle in a few weeks. My son decided we'll name the coastal Chomper after one of the dinosaurs in Land Before Time. He was pretty docile when I held him for a few minutes before placing him in his new home. Didn't strike once but he was a bit flighty. I'll let him settle in for a few days then I'll offer food. I couldn't get any good pictures today but I will soon. Needless to say I'm pretty stoked. :D

Well done, Ziggy!
Have to say though, your new baby is a coastal jag.

Like the others already said, hope to see better pictures of this little guy, but clearly he's very good looking ;)

Thanks y'all. Please forgive the crappy photos. He was super flighty, and I didn't want to handle him for too long, but I had to share the good news. I'll post better pics soon. Just want to give him a few days to acclimate. He hid most of yesterday but was out and about this morning. After he eats twice and realizes I am the bringer of food, light and water, I'll do a proper photo shoot.

@ Pine-I'm pretty sure he's not a jag. The breeder, Nick Mutton, would have advertised him as such if that were the case. He knows that as much as I like the looks of some jags, I prefer not to keep them. Nick does have a beautiful female caramel jag that would pair very nicely with my male even though I have no breeding plans. The lineage info on my male goes back 3 gens and they're all pure coastals. The Sire is a 2010 striped coastal produced by Michael Pennel and the Dam is a 2007 super caramel produced by Paul Harris out of England.

Congrats EL! That lineage sounds impressive. Rock on! Looks like his life was well documented too by Nick Mutton from the lid on the container he came in. Good luck.

Thanks Al. My concern now is that he's only eaten live prey. I was planning to offer a f/t rat fuzzy on Sunday but was wondering if I should give him 1 or 2 live feedings before attempting the transition to f/t.

Finally got him in! Great pattern on that guy.

It just depends on the snake (whether f/t will be accepted) but if his appetite is typical of carpets in general you shouldn't have any problems. I received a shipment of frozen fuzzy rats last week, and offered them to the boas and the jungle/cross carpet that have only been fed mice, mostly live. The boas didn't seem to notice any difference, they struck hard and fast like usual. The carpet, though, very calmly took the rat and started swallowing it w/out "killing" it first, which he/she always did when given f/t mice. Makes me wonder if the difficulty with feeding mice was due to the breeder feeding rats? In any case I'd offer f/t whatever the accustomed food is now.

Beautiful caramel BTW, gratz on the new addition, definitely looking forward to better pics.

Fair enough, Ziggy. If you have trouble getting eating thawed rats, try him on a mouse of appropriate size. This has always worked with any our fussier eaters.

Ok, I would say to get him taking f/t make sure you warm them up to the 102f degree range and that will help. The warmer the better. Especially the head of the prey.

Congrats on the new addition Ziggy. They are certainly stunning creatures.

First time's a charm I guess. My little Chomper took a f/the rat fuzzy from the tongs. I've got a feeling he's going to grow quickly now that he's being fed more often.

I did get a slightly better picture today. He still likes to move around quite a bit. He didn't musk me today so I think we're making progress.

A different photo makes all the difference, Ziggy. I can see that your python is a reduced pattern coastal.
