These two were hatched in July '01 as the result of breeding two WC adults, which were some of the first Irian Jaya Carpets ever brought into the country.

Thought you might like to see what these animals can look like as F1 animals. Just imagine what will happen with a few generations of selective breeding.

Here's a decent shot of the female by herself.

You're talkin about the pic posted on here by AnthonyC recently right?

I've seen pics on some forums of IJ's exactly like that (pattern and colour).. king.snake and here. most of them I've seen were from or in Europe though. and there's one that's similar on the VPI website.

I think they're great.

someone mentioned a "light phase". I wonder why you said it's a light phase IJ. that's true if you consider the lack of yellow in the background colour. but the colouration on the bands are far from light! actually they're incredibly concentrated Irian colours!!!... it's rare to find IJ's with such intense natural IJ colours. they are F1's from a certain locality, so dont consider them the classic IJ at all or anything. this colouration IS natural, but so are the almost all black and yellows. IJ's are highly variable. and this is an absolutely stunning example of it's locale. I absolutely love the snakes AnthonyC has, even though I collect the near opposite (high yellow locales).

Irian Jaya's are stunning at any extreme. if it's earth tones or yellow on velvet.

PS. as far as the F1's in this post go. I think they fit IJ to a "T". Not because of its colour. but because of the way the colours are ya know? the orange/browns are seperated by the creams with a single layer of black scales. extremely fine examples of that locale. the best i've ever seen of that locale EVER.

I'd be interested in buying some F1's myself if you'd PM/IM or email me the info. no plans to breed them to the others I have. i dont think breeding that to a high yellow would be good for the captive bloodline. that bloodline should be preserved EXACTLY how it is.

Jimi,

Thanks for the kind words. I really lucked out to get those as babies. Believe it or not, I only paid $70 each for them. Unfortunately, the breeder sold the parents and the rest of the babies before I had a chance to get them.

I have those, and I have three babies like the one in the pic below, which from what I have been hearing, come from the New Guinea side of the island. I kinda consider those high yellow. Compared to my F1s, they are definitely on the extreme opposite end of the Irian Jaya spectrum.

Actually, the F1 pair that I posted above are only about 19 months old, but the female is closing in on the 1,000 gram mark, so it'll probably be early next season before I can produce any.

The babies from them will be F2, which means that they'll probably be even better. I've also got quite a waiting list, so the price will be fairly steep...at least, compared to what us people in the US are used to paying. BTW, in tradition of higher end Morelia viridis, I will be providing lineage data, etc. with all the baby Carpets that I produce.

Awesome pattern on those IJ's. I think the IJ's are the nicest carpet pythons you can get.
