Hey guys. I might be interested in breeding snakes in the future. What is a good morph to breed to a snow corn? I want to know so I can plan to acquire certain morphs if I do want to breed.
Thanks in advanced!

Well, technically you cam breed anything to it. The thing to do if you get into breeding hiwever, is to find a morph you already like and find out what genes go into it and go from there.

Thanks :D for the reply! I do like the Blizzards so probably gonna try breed a blizzard to a snow then the babies to the original blizzard

Why would you inbreed?

Many people do it. Many people on different forums have said that inbreeding is fine as long as it is not more than 2 to 3 generations.

That way you will get all amels het anery, charcoal, and after pairing one of the offsprings to blizzard you will get blizzards, blizzards het anery, and amels with hets.
And inbreeding... I'm okay with this, as long as it's like Marine said, 2 generations max. In my country there isn't really a lot of different morphs, so all the breeders must inbreed sometimes to get what they want. Ofc some of them buy snakes from other countries, and then they "add to the country pool of genetics", but it's still not that easy like in US, UK etc.

I also doubt there are many morphs here in SA aswell...

Exactly. It's good to remember that some countries are not that "advanced" in reptile market like others. Years ago in US, UK etc. there was similiar situation, and breeders were inbreeding too to get all that crazy morphs that there are at the moment. I bet that some of the newest morphs are still from inbreeding too.

I bet so, I read somewhere that most of the morphs were results from inbreeding.

I know that many people do it, but i'm just not a fan, no offense.

I know what you mean. I also thought it was wrong but then I did some research and then figured a few things out...
This a great tool for new breeders of cornsnakes.Ive used it several times already. If you cant find the morph then use the Trade Names list to find the genes for the morph your needing..I love this calculator and the whole site is great.

I have tried it before :D but thanks!
Since nearly all corn snake genes are recessive, yes, every single one of them were inbred to an extent at the start, as that's the only way to prove out inheritance and to produce more of them. Though good breeders are careful about exactly how much inbreeding they do, once you've got a decent pool of hets and homos, it's fairly easy to outcross your lines without losing the recessive gene they are working with.
Marine. Go onto SAReptiles. There are plenty of Corn Snake Morphs in SA.
