Hello!

I volunteered at the zoo as a camp counselor over the summer, and one of the things the kids got to do every week was pet snakes. The one they always brought out was this gorgeous Sand Boa.

I've been wanting to get a snake for a while and have lots and lots of breeder friends, but none with the kind I want.

What are some places I should look at to find a quality Sand Boa? I'm more into the dog and goose world, so this is all new to me. I will be doing MUCH more research about housing these snakes, or snakes in general, this is not something I will be doing within the next few months.

Is it too late to find babies? I don't know how snake breeding works!

Hi CarolinaP, these are some great little personalities to work with. Usually, you can find a variety of credible breeders with a quick Google search or by attending a local reptile expo. I've gotten all of mine from expos, and had a problem with only one of them before.

Babies are being born from late July all the way into October, so pretty soon places will have fully established babies for sale. They tend to be a little jumpy as kiddos, so if they start to jerk around and twitch their bodies, it's his/her way of trying to scare you off. Don't be deterred by this behavior, as I've rarely been bit by any of them even when they do this, and it doesn't hurt even when they do it.

Of course we're just now dipping our toes into baby season, but you can find great subadult snakes even into spring and summer if you'd like them. Happy hunting :)
