Just a question, if a snake were to accidentally ingest a small amount of shredded newspaper, would the dye/ink affect it? Not that this is likely to happen due to the size of the shreds I use.

Question, why use shredded newspaper?

Check the inks that your papers use. Most are non toxic these days. The ones I use are.

I am using it because it is free and I, being too young to attain a real job have no reliable source of income. I know it is a small cost but the little things all add up.

Unshredded newspaper is free too.

Ive used both without problem. I have a shredder and sometimes Ive shredded it but Im pretty sure most inks in newsprint is soy based and non toxic. Its just easier to use it plain.

I've never had a problem with any newspaper and in fact I've seen numerous insects eat holes through it and to the best of my knowledge suffer no ill effects. Some people feed shredded newspaper to earthworms.
