I have 2 retics now. A male super tiger/possible sunfire cross at about 9ft and a female bali/sumatran cross at about 11ft theyre both just under 3years of age. The male is perfectly fine when i take bim outdoors. The female on the other hand im afraid to let go of because as soon as we get outside she starts thrashing and is trying to get out of my grasp. I know if she hits the ground she'll be gone. Any ideas why she does this shes so mellow and sweet indoors.

Lol! mine are just the opposite...my two males are insane when I get them out side. my female is quite placid though.

You ask a good question though.

Just don't do it. It can be an overload of the senses and they are extremely uncomfortable of all the new things.

It could be that she just really really wants to explore, or as Aaron suggested is freaked out by sensory overload. The cal king I used to have would sometimes get super interested in something specific and start thrashing around in my hands because she wanted to go investigate it.

But if that's how she's acting, I would suggest just not taking her outdoors.

Luckily my retic is very calm outdoors. She speeds around, but doesn't easily spook from my touch (as long as I don't touch her tail of course) and doesn't thrash around.

I'd say either expose her gently to the outdoors and maybe with time she'll get used to it, or just refrain from taking her outside as others have suggested. Especially if she's an older, larger animal.

I've started taking my young male outside, he seems ok so maybe I've got lucky :)

Interesting. Almost like agoraphobia in snakes.

Short handling sessions, go slow, be patient. They usually calm down as they get older. Just be prepared because some never calm down.

She did NOT want to sit still during the photo shoot yesterday... Lol. It just takes some practice and patience.

She actually. There was something up there that she was searching for, no idea what as I wouldn't let her up there.

Thanks. I need to get some more free time to do photo editing as I took some with my snakes and other models a few weeks prior and that's how I met the photographer that took these.
