View Full Version : So Now We Have Leos

I had a couple of leos years ago, but I've been mostly a snake guy for a long time. But, I started a dubia colony a while back to feed to our small collection of tarantulas, so we have a quite a bit of food and not much to feed. Obviously, that had to be reconciled. After a trip up to Nashville to the Repticon show yesterday, my daughter is now in the leopard gecko business. We picked out a nice trio of tangerines. And, we're going to dabble in breeding, for fun. I'm hoping she might give me a baby or two ;) .

Anyway, here's a few photos of the new arrivals.

The male.

Thanks Ziggy! I've been enjoying them. I have very dim LED lighting so that we can watch them at night. They're interesting little guys.

Thanks, everyone!

They're cool little lizards. True to my habits, I've set them up in a naturalistic enclosure. They're a lot of fun to watch. They even move around a bit during daylight hours. I think my daughter (and me too!) will enjoy them. And, this will really be my first foray into breeding, which is something I've never really been interested in in the past. But, I've really been thinking about breeding more and more. Leos should be an easy introduction to that. Anyway, leos are cool, and very photogenic. That allows me to play with my other hobby, photography.

Please keep posting pics and updates. I want to try keeping lizards one day and leos would be in the list seeing I'd be a newbie. I might try a more intermediate herp lizard but not sure.

Can you post a photo of their enclosure, id really like to compare results Of geckos in different habitats, i mean, most people keep their geckos on tile or newspaper. What do you feed them, what are their temps/humidity?

My guys Laid a few eggs, one was infertile, one rotted/coleapsed (spelling) and one hatched but was eaten by his father.

I'll post some photos soon. I don't have any right now.

I feed them meal worms and dubia roaches. I have a small dish that is sunk into the substrate where I put the food. The meal worms and dubia can't climb the smooth sides to get out. I also throw a few dubia in the enclosure for them to find naturally. Temps - 90f on the warm side, and mid 70's on the cool side. Humidity isn't a concern, except that they do have a humid hide with coco coir.

Great pick up Em! Thanks for the superior pics and the information on the leos. I know you and your daughter will be successful in the breeding department.

What are you using for heat, those are pretty much the same temps that mine get, with the exception of a 130-140 f basking spot
